Hi, everyone. I've set my mind on making cupcakes this weekend, and I really want to have a homemade cream cheese frosting to put on my dark chocolate cupcakes (I HATE the canned cream cheese frostings! Too sweet!). Does anyone have any favorite cream cheese frosting recipes? I do like to be able to taste the cream cheese and not just sugar.
Thanks in advance! I can't wait to make them.

Hi there, I love cream cheese frosting and dont like much anything from a can either. I take one bag of powdered sugar, 1 stick real butter ( much better flavor that margerine) 1 8 oz pkg cream cheese, 2 tsp real vanilla, milk. Make sure your butter and cheese are raly soft before you start. put the butter in the sugar and mix until it gets a little like cornmeal (kinda grainy) then add the cheese and mix that well, add the vanilla and slowly add milk until it is the right consistancy. Good luck and I hope you like it !

Hi there, quick question about your recipe. Do you soften your butter by allowing it to warm up, or by beating it?
I remember one time I beat butter with some (I think) cream cheese to soften it and ended up with something that looked like dried out rice pudding.

Luscious Cream Cheese Icing
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
12 ounces Cool Whip
Mix cream cheese and sugar well with mixer.
Add vanilla and Cool Whip; mix well.
MUST be refrigerated, except when serving.
Ices 1 triple layer cake or 2 other cakes.
When using on layers just ice top of layers and let icing ooze over sides.
Great on carrot cake!

Yummy! Cream cheese frosting, can't go wrong with having that on top of home made cupcakes. Below I enclosed a few recipes that I used, as well as tried that turned out quite well for me when I decided to use them.. To put on top of my cupcakes, as well as sometimes cakes.
I find them all to be rather delicious & if you end up trying it I hope you like it as much as.. I enjoy making it, & seeing others eat it on the yummy desserts I end up making.
Thanks for allowing me to share! xx
"Cream Cheese Frosting: Recipe 1."

- 1/4 of a cup of butter (softened)
- 2 teaspoons of milk
- 1 teaspoons of vanilla

- Beat all of ingredients together EXCEPT for the powdered sugar at least until smooth. Then afterwards add the powdered sugar one cup at a time though. Then spread over top of cooled cake, or even cupcakes for that matter!
"Cream Cheese Frosting: Recipe 2."
(Note: This recipe I seen Martha Stewart make one time on her television show. I ended up trying it & found it to be rather delicious. You may want to see whether or not you like it as some do, & others don't.)
Ingredients are as follows:
- 8 ounces of cream cheese, at room temperature though.
- 8 tablespoons of 1 stick of unsalted butter. Make sure to cut it in to pieces, & that it's at room temperature though.
- 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract.
- 1 cup of confectioners' sugar
Directions are as follows:
- Place the cream cheese that you have in a medium mixing bowl. Using a rubber spatula, soften the cream cheese.
- Afterwards gradually add the butter, & then continue to beat at least until smooth & of course well blended. Then sift in the confectioners’ sugar, & then continue beating until smooth. Lastly add the vanilla, & stir to combine. Add to your cake or cupcakes after they had been cooked. Then enjoy these yummy guys afterwards! . .
