How do you help a child who's afraid of Math subject?

Mathematics is a subject which most children are afraid of or should I say get easily confused with. So, what should we do?
My style, is to boost the confidence of my son and help him not be intimidated with Math. All he needs is to have presence of mind and to follow the instructions carefully. What about you? What do you do to help your child?
