I was trying o think of some more household tips today, I remember this brilliant one, It was on the television programme, How dirty is your house? If you have burned something in a pan and it just wont clean no matter what you do, You put coca cola the real brand ( not a cheap shops own ) and you BOIL IT IN THE PAN remember to take it out of the can if its a can and not a bottle lol, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I would never have believed it, what have you got to loose

I have done this a couple of times!! I burn so much food and then have to throw the pans away. I am a very absent minded cook. I will put something on the stove and then forget about it.

I've ruined the bottoms of many pans and it hasn't kept me from continuing to cook. I'll have to try this tip some time to see if it actually works.

thanks for this weemam, I am quite an expert at burning anything. I can never boil milk, I will either burn the pot or let the whole milk boil to the ground. I still have a pot thats burned but looks okay after a lot of scrubbing but now I am going to try your method to clean it up. Hey wy dont' you post such tips on dailytipper.com, you might as well get paid from them for this stuff.

Hi Weemam, Thank you for your household tip today in regards to cleaning a pan with coke cola what I found in regards to cleaning of a pot is to put some salt in the pan and water and leave it for a while after about half an hour then empty the pan and most of the burn will come off it will need more time depending on the burn.

lol... just what I was thinking! The hint about the coke is a great idea but I'm not sure I could bring myself to waste a perfectly good coke :) but I'll definatly remember that next time I burn something (LOL - shouldn't be too long) although I'll probably try the salt trick before I resort to dumping a coke :)

That's a good idea, since my hubby (the household "chef") is forever burning my sauce pans and frying pans! But think about this.....if cola cleans everyday items so well, imagine how "cleaned out" our tummies would be from drinking it all the time. (But I still won't give up my Diet Cherry Pepsi! LOL)

I believe it. Coca Cola is also good for taking salt stains off shoes. just remember to rinse the shoes or the stitching will come apart. Whatever you do, just don't drink the stuff.

You must know what I'm like, especially in the kitchen, it's a case of can't cook won't cook, and when I have to cook, there's no alternative I will burn the flamming pan! That's why I try to get teflon stuff. I actually burnt my saucepan yesterday through boiling soup up! Ok don't laugh but I was watching Deal or No Deal and I was so involved that I had forgotten I had put the soup on! Hmmm looks like I'll have to go out and buy a bottle of coke then! Thanks for the tip!

I am going to go out and get some Coke to have handy. There will be no chance of me drinking it because I only like Pepsi, so it will be there for "cleaning". I have had to throw out so many pans because I burn everything. I recently ruined a pan when I "forgot" about the rice-a-roni that I was cooking. I get busy doing other things, and before you know it you have no dinner and no pan! This is worth a try. Thanks.

I have burned a couple of pans a little since finding mylot! I do not drink Coke but will give it a try. I don't care about pouring one out.LOL I have used ice and salt to clean a coffee pot. (just swish around but do not stop, it will freeze solid) I think I may try that tonight on the pan with dark spots that resemble macaroni for some odd reason!LOL

My brother (in his late teens or maybe even twenty at the time) put a Paul Revere pot in the microwave. Yeah. It didn't end well. Ever since we've had this rule: Nothing shiny in the microwave unless Mom approves.

Good morning Weemam, Because of my forgetfulness, I found that my smoke detector was going off far to often, because I would put some thing on the stove and forget it, So there were several tricks i figured out, Have a loud timer by the stove and get used to setting it,or carry it around in your pocket. Use the microwave as much as possible, because it is pretty hard to burn any thing in it,If you have something in the oven, throw a bright colored oven mitt on the floor, where you can not miss it. I have found what works best for me is I have a George Foreman grill, and I use my microwave most of the time, As for cleaning out burned pots an old cooks trick put dishwasher granules on the burn, add water and let sit for a few hours, works every time but I will keep your coke Idea on file for future use and to pass along. as I love to have handy hints to pass along. Very nice discussion, Thanks Robin

Just recently I have managed to burn every saucepan, pot and frypan in my kitchen. I even went out and bought two new pots and promptly burnt those. I could not figure out how come I have suddenly become so forgetful in the kitchen. I did not throw any of the pans out(only the frypan my worst damage but will get to that in a mo!)just tried to clean them and then when that failed stacked them in the garage. The last thing I burnt was the frypan, it was a gift from my grandmother on my marriage and I have had it since 1995. It was a lovely stainless steel expensive frypan which I always used and was very easy to clean. Well my hubby came home from work just as I was turning the heat on under the frypan and was about to put some oil in the pan to start cooking a little onion. He said you go and pick up son from school and I will stay here with the little ones. I put the oil down and picked up the keys and off I went leaving the frypan on! It had no oil in it it was empty thank goodness or it might have ignited and caused a fire! I came home to see smoke pouring out the kitchen door and my hubby standing there with his eyes watering. The children were in the hallway yelling and the 2 yr old was yelling at me not to go in the kitchen. On the lino floor were two pefectly round black scorched marks. The smoke detector had gone off eventually and hubby had come in and grabbed the frypan to put it in the sink and the bottom had fallen off onto the floor! I had to throw the frypan away but I was thankfully able to rescue the rest of my pans with the dishwasher powder. Sprinkle the pan with dishwasher powder add a little water WATCH THE PAN CAREFULLY :) and bring to a boil simmer topping up with a little more water so it doesn't boil dry and within 5 mins you will see all the burnt stuff lifting off. And to end the story, I was so forgetful and burning all my pans because my doctor said I was seriously low on iron and B12. She said that being low on those can make one forgetful. And what do you know after a course of B12 and iron no more burnt pans lol :)
