What do you think of people who meet online?

Online dating - haha!

I always use to think it was completely crazy to find someone online and actually think you KNOW this person enough to have a relationship! But then, I met this guy 12 hours away from me. We were strictly friends and neither of us thought of it any other way. We talked about everything, even our other partners. After about a year, we confessed to one another that we felt something more. I wouldn't say it was love, but I guess a 'crush'. From there, we talked on the phone for another year. After that year, we realized we were truly in love with each other. He drove the 12 hours to see me, and the rest is history! We've been married for 3 1/2 years, and we have a beautiful 11 month old daughter! So needless to say, my opinion has changed about online 'dating'. Just wondering what everyone else thinks of it!

What a beautiful story! I haven't quite gotten into it myself. I have tried and have met some very weird people. So perhaps I have given up. But i know of many stories like yours. I have at least four friends who met their soul mates on line and ended up married. So why can't it happen to me? Perhaps I shouldn't give up. I guess I am just old fashioned. As the world gets smaller by the internet it does make it easier to meet people that way.

I met my husband online. I met him through a free dating site. I was looking for people to hang out with, to have fun with, to actually date, as I had never really done that part of a relationship before. I had just had my now almost 5 year old daughter. I was tired of the idiots I had been with and I wanted someone for ME. Someone who cared about me. My hubby and I talked for about 2 weeks before meeting in person. I never expected it to turn into more than "friends with benefits", but it slowly did and I'm very pleased that it did! Now we have a son who is just a year old (yesterday) and are planning on one more child. This is the healthiest and happiest relationship I've ever been in in my life. I definately condone internet dating.

Well there are lots of success stories out there, including yours :) I think that online dating is becoming a more common thing, as people are leading busier lives and are growing sick of the bar scene. Also, there are a lot more services offered online for "hooking you up" with someone you're compatible with. I think that people meeting online is a good thing, you just have to be careful and trust your instincts...it can be just as dangerous as meeting someone in a bar in my view.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with meeting someone that you met online, though you should take extra caution when doing so. Especially these days, you hear about people that do all sorts of sick things to people that talked to on the net. I have dated two people that I met online but both times it did not work out. I am still friends with the first lady that I dated and we get along well and had no problems. That is great that you and your husband met online and have a wonderful relationship. It is definitely nice to hear happy stories about online romances. I am still willing to try online dating but have not found her yet. :-)

that's a sweet story. i wish i could meet a guy online like you did. there's just so many freaks out there. you never know what you may find. i think if you meet someone here on mylot then it's a bit better. i say that because everything you say here is monitored and you can't just harass someone or anything. i'm still unsure about it because as i said it's hard to trust someone online. i think the way you did it was best. thanks for sharing your story

i also use to think that online dating was absolutely absurd. but then i too found my husband online over 2 yrs ago. we started out being friend then into best friends and it just went from there. we ended up meeting the following year. he was absolutely what i saw in him on the internet. his personality, his charm, his love and everything else turned out to be actually what i feel n love with.we got married las June 16th (still newlyweds i guess lol) but my life couldn't be any better. hes 8 rs younger then me and i never thought he would except my two kids (7 and 11) as his own but he has done just that. he loves my kids as well as me. hes just one great guy and im lucky we found him :)
