I was just looking at a news story about a Russian man who divorced his wife whom he had been married to for 18 years simply because he found out that she had been feeding him pumpkins instead of the more expensive courgettes that he thought she was serving him.
I just can't believe some of the things that people get divorces over nowadays - but this one really takes the cake, I have to say *laugh*
What do you think about this? What are some strange divorce stories that you've heard, or strangs things that couples have broken up over?
Oh, and you can read the news here:

She's better off without him! Really, what is the big deal? He obviously lived through years of eating pumpkins without any ill effects, and she saved him a lot of money. He sounds like a real control freak, doesn't he?

Oh yes, he definitely sounds like a control freak. I mean, I think that I would have been pleased to find out that I had been eating something that I thought I hated for that long and not even noticing, lol! To think, she was saving the family money, and she proved to him (at least in my eyes) that he can't really have hated pumpkins all that much, lol! But hey, she's better off without him, as you said. He sounds like he is way too high-maintenance for me! LOL.

He asked the question of, What man trusts his wife after feeding him pumpkin for half a year?
What? You have got to be kidding me! And what is a courgette?
You don't divorce your wife because you hate pumpkins and she has been feeding them to you. Because obviously, you really don't have a problem with pumpkins or you would have noticed right away! I would if I didn't like something!
And they must be from the same family or he would have never been fooled!
He needs to be a "man" and tell her the real reason he is divorcing her!
Because if she had been feeding him pumpkins because they were cheaper and he didn't have a problem with it before he found the pumpkin rinds, he shouldn't have a problem with it now! Especially after 18 years of marriage!
He is just looking for an excuse!

It sounds ridiculous on the surface, but I wonder if it is about the fact that she has been deceiving him? He may feel it would carry over into another area of their life. I don't know, just guessing.

GardenGerty, you've got a good point there. It was about deceit, to one extent or another, and not just about the pumpkins. But I still feel like it is a minor issue to leave someone over. I can understand him being hurt over the lying, but he really can't have found the pumpkins too disgusting if it took him that long to even notice - and even then, he only noticed because he saw the pumpkin rinds in the trash, lol! But yes, she shouldn't have been decieving him, and I can understand his pain over that part of it for sure.

Divorce over pumpkins! That is funny, or is it sad? My nieghbors separated over desserts though. The husband thought his wife was trying to kill him with her desserts. He had been diagnosed diabetic and she continued to have pies, cakes, cookies for their dessert. He refused to eat them and when she continued to bake, he moved out. Finally, one of his friends told her what was happening and she took her recipes to his hotel room. They were all sugar free! The separation only lasted two days.

Aw! What a sweet story - no pun intended, lol! I am so glad that the seperation only lasted two days. It sounds to me like it was mostly nothing but a misunderstanding that happened between your neighbors. I'm glad that the wife was able to find some diabetic-friendly recepies, lol! I can totally relate to this story, too, as my mother is diabetic and I believe that I may be also heading towards it or already have it myself. I really have to be very, very careful of how much sugar I eat, and I can't eat much of it at all. So I can understand why that lady's husband left her at first. I am just so glad that they got back together and that everything was happy again. Yay! ^_^

That has to be the oddest reason for a couple to get divorced and am sure there are many other reasons out there. I have heard of a couple who got divorced because the wife was jealous that her husband had a better job than her and it is a job that she applied for at one time. She was so upset with him for taking the job that she wanted that they got divorced.

LOL... why do I sense that it really ran a bit deeper than "pumpkins"? Heck, if he's that anal retentive, had she known she could've gotten rid of him long ago I'm sure! LOL

I'm not a marriage therapist, but I'm guessing there's some other issue besides pumpkins that's a problem here, and maybe pumpkins are just an excuse.
I have no idea what courgettes are, but apparently they're better or tastier than pumpkins!

That is crazy... I just cannot believe that more and more people are getting divorced over such outrageous things. I know that when we are so angry and feel so mistreated, we tend to do things that we regret, it is that we have to stop sometimes and think about what is really important and what is really right. I have a close friend who is separated from her hubby (they could even be divorced, I don't know), they got separated because he told her that he wanted to have more kids and it was time for her to decide, she had been putting it off, and telling him that they would discuss the children issue later, (like when their other children were a bit older). Also, she has not been feeling too well lately, so she did not want to have more children. I am sad that it happened, and I hope that they can work things out...marriage takes a lot of work and commitment.

It must have been the only thing he loved about her and found out it was a lie so nothing was left for him to stay in the relationship. They are lucky they have divorce in Russia, not here.

Wel I guess it wasn't so much the pumpkin issue, but perhaps more the case that she had been lying to him over years. It might sound trivial to us, but maybe he began to think if she was capable of lying over something like his food, she might be able to lie over other, and more serious things.

I think that this man was abviously already unhappy with his wife and using the pumpkins as an excuse. They weren't in a happy marriage. The silliest divorces to me are the ones in which the marriages lasted only a few months to a year. Like give it some time! This mostly happens in Hollywood of course.
