Why all the media attention for Anna Nicole Smith's death?

All I see on the news is "Late Breaking News about Anna Nicole Smith's death ... stayed tuned for the latest". I mean are we that shallow that we sit back and watch this instead of bolder topics like our Soldiers dying in Iraq or Exxon's Record Profits? I am amazed at the amount of attention her death is generating.
