Melted Cheese in the Microwave

Does anyone else out there eat cheese melted in the microwave? I've been doing this since I was a kid... of course, before microwaves, my mom used to melt it in a pan on the stove. She only melted brick, but once we got a microwave, I melted all kinds. Colby, Monterrey Jack, Co-Jack, Mozzerella, Brick, Munster, cheese curds... (Cheddar is too greasy and American too runny, so I stay away from those.) Also, I don't dip anything into the cheese or use crackers or anything. I just melt it and eat it out of the bowl with a fork. Mmmmmm! Are there any other "strange" ways of eating cheese or strange things you eat WITH cheese? (Like the jam discussion... pretty strange. Still contemplating whether or not I'm brave enough to try it.)

It's really good - addicticting. Be careful not to burn your tongue. I usually cut up squares from a block, but I've melted slices too. My personal favorite is CoJack (the marble mix of Colby and Monterrey Jack cheeses). I put it in a glass bowl and cook on high for about a minute and a half. If it's not all the way melted, I put it back in for another 30 seconds. If you go too long, the sides will get real crusty - not a bad thing, but if you let it cool, it will be difficult to get off the side of the bowl. Becomes like cement! When you take the bowl out, be very careful. It will be extremely hot. I usually drain off some of the grease or "butter". Then, eat with a fork. Again, be careful not to burn your tongue. It will be extremely hot. Enjoy! Let me know what you think!

I prefer melting the cheese on the stove top, although I cheat and use the microwave. I also do this to melt cheese for nachos. A great way to make somewhat lower fat grilled cheese sandwiches is tossing the bread in the toaster, melting the cheese (and pouring away all the extra fat), then placing the cheese between the bread. Not always as good as the old-fashioned kind fried in hearty amounts of butter, but my rear-end looks a lot better for it. I love making pizza bagels or sandwiches by spreading on some marinara sauce. Top with cheese and bake in the oven, or if you prefer in the microwave (gets soggier though). For a "true pizza taste" add some Oregano and Basil or an Italian herb blend.
