Well, this is a genuine doubt. I have heard people saying that black undergarments can have bad effects on your health and can even cause diseases like cancer. Is there any truth in that? Is it applicable more to people living in the tropical areas?

I've never heard of such a thing. It sounds very strange to me. It doesn't sound like it has a ring of truth to it.

I am not sure who told you this, but I have never heard it before and if there was any element of truth in it, then the media would have made a big thing of it here in Australia, as would the government. Black does hold the heat more than other lighter colours, but as your undergarments are covered up, that wouldn't make much difference at all. So, rule that one out.
I cannot see that it would be more applicable to people living in tropical areas than saying that wearing light colours or white in non-tropical colours would be harmful to the health. White or light colours are not "hot" colours and are often worn in warmer climates to combat the heat, so on the basis of black being bad for the health in tropical areas it must also be that white and light colours are harmful to those in non-tropical areas.
Generally I think it is not true, and you should tell people that say it is that they are wrong. At least it might remove some of the concerns people might have about wearing black. Also point out that a lot of Islamic women wear black or dark coloured headwear, and they don't seem to catch cancer in greater numbers than anyone else.

I believe that the questionable factor comes from the dyes of the fabric. I know that when I had problems with cancer and infection the urologist recommended that I wear only white undergarments because of the dye. While I don't know that it truly has a huge effect on people, I can understand the possible dangers as most dye is a chemically produced effect and not natural.

well, i have been asked not to wear black undergarments for SCIENTIFIC reasons by my mom, who is supposed to be very much health conscious and she always has justifications. she says black holds on more heat and traps in body warmth aswell. our intimate parts are always insufficiently aired and if we add to this in adequate aeration, things might get affected. she says it's always better to prevent things and a black synthetic lingerie is deadly when used for prolonged period, this can actually lead to skin diseases and even cancer.
we should be careful, especially in tropical summers, when the sultry weather adds upto to this mess. ashjoe, i donot know how severe is this, as recent branded undergarments are tested and proven clinically but no harm in little bit of precaution. even my mom has agreed to it occasionally.

Honey that's a brand new one on me! I doubt that it could be true. There are a gr8 many physiological reasons for cancers and other diseases but the color of the dye in your panties, I doubt is one of them! However you learn something new every day. All the more reason to just skip them!

I don't think there's any danger in wearing black undergarments but perhaps there are disadvantages as black accordingly is not just warm but hot so if it's used for undergarments, there might be some disadvantageous effects on our health. Warmth is good to make our veins larger for blood to circulate well.

I have never heard anything about black undergarments increasing the risk for any type of illness. The only thing remotely similar would be that we tell diabetic clients who have foot ulcers to wear only white socks because colored socks (any colors..not just black) have dye in them that can leetch into the wound causing infection. But I don't call socks an 'undergarment' so I doubt this is what you heard about. Interesting. If you hear anymore let us know!

That is simply absurd. Only problem with black undergarments can be that it would be more hotter and you would sweat more, but if you are buying a really good brand, they would have tailored it in such a way to provide ventilation and comfort, so that would not be a problem. Otherwise, I don't see any reason why we should not wear black undergarments

That is a new one on me, but my gut instinct is that it is an urban myth. I would go to snopes.com and do a search, you can learn a lot there. It is more healthy to wear underwear made from natural fibers thatn from synthetics.

I don't think black undergarments can cause cancer.the only issue I see with wearing black undergarments is the maintenance of the fabric.black undergarments need special fabric conditioners and softeners.an ordinary bleach will stain the color.
