Why do friends pitty themselves?

My friend is in his 20's and he's always telling me how hard his life is, i have a blind mother that owns her own business and is becoming more and more finanically free. When a 20 y/o MAN whines and cries about being unemployed and such, it really makes me sick yet mad at the same time. Don't pitty yourself, FIX IT!!
