There are other ways to punish a kid, without violence. However I don't feel a few swats on the backside of a toddler in diapers hurts, but it does get your point across. If you want to punish a child, take away the thing that they most enjoy, be it TV, computer games or a toy, for a specified time. It will make them remember the thingthey did wrong. Also, time out , alone in a room with no tv or other distractions works for some kids as well, but it should only be for a very short period, Most doctors recommend 1 minute for every year the child is old. My mom favoured the "Go sit on your bed until I'm not mad any more" method. Which could be anywhere from 2 minutes to most of the day.

I believe there is a time for time outs and a time for spanking. After a couple of times out and the child does the same thing again then it is time for a spanking. A spanking will get the child's attention much quicker. I spanked all for of my childen at one time or another. They were never violent and they didn't hit each other. May be if a few more parents would use spanking occasionally there would be less problems in the world. I'm not talknig about beating or spanking all the time but there is a time and a place for it. The bible says spare the rod and spoil the child. Do you think God knew what he was talking about when you see a bratty child?

there are other forms of discipline with out spanking. i know a lot of people who were raised with out spanking and were well behaved. i think that spanking is teaching a kid violence. i don't agree with it at all. i was spanked as a child and it didn't teach me anything. except violence i grew up getting into fights all the time at school. so it obviously didn't work for me.
