Bringing your children shopping...

It is quite frustrating nowadays to go to a store with my toddler because there are times that she wants something and can't understand that we can't get it. I end up getting out of the store and not buying anything at all. How do you deal with these situation yourself?

I have three kids, 7, 5 and 2. When I go shopping with all of them, I want to check myself into a mental hospital (not literally of course) because it's sooooooo stressful sometimes! By themselves, they aren't as bad, except for my youngest, he still gets bored really quickly. I'm lucky that I can leave one or two with my Mom while I go shopping at the grocery store. It's hard to explain to a toddler why you can't get something. My oldest two know that we don't have the money for a lot of things but they still ask. I just gently remind them that we can't buy everything that they want.

Thanks for the response. I keep on telling my daughter that we don't have money for everything she wanted. But you know at this age, she is like a parrot. Many times we go to a store, she will point on something and carry a one way conversation by herself...ex: Look it is a Dora doll. It is so pretty but we don't have money to buy that, right Mommy? This is in a loud voice. First time, it is embarrassing but later on, I tell her you are right...I don't care if the people around me snicker as long as my toddler got an idea what no money means..lol.

My kids do that too. "Oh that looks neat. I wish we could get it. We don't have the money though." and I'll agree that it's embarrassing but what can you do, they're right. I try not to say it all the time that we don't have the money for every toy they want but they remember it from the times I do tell them.
