wh does plastic furniture deteriorate when left outside?

The plastic is petroleum based, the sun heats it up and in the same way that crayons melt in the sun when left outside, essentially it is the samething. Hope I could help.

the ultraviolet rays of the sun has suffecient energy to break some chemical bonds holding the giant plastic molecules together..
