to me it depends on if your bidding with money or not, if you are, then yes its gambling, but if your playin for fun, or maybe with bottlecaps or sumthing that has no money value to it, then its not gambling!

I would consider it a sport, and that we are betting on it. A sport is:
Definitions of sport on the Web:
~an active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition
~the occupation of athletes who compete for pay
Well it requires physical exertion of the mind. You are physically wiped from playing the game believe it or not. This would consider them athletes and this is their pay. I guess that's my opinion. You can't win without skill so it's just like a sport too.

Any time you bet money on the outcome of something it is gambling, the risk is greater for some then others due to skill level. I have seen the best poker players lose to people who had never played before. Why is it because the new person has more card skill? No it is because as much as skill can help in the game there are going to be times when you just don't get the cards you need. Or times when someone who may be less experienced is going to take a chance when logic or skill says they shouldn't and they win.
I have lost hands just this way. Hands that I should have won, and if I had not been playing with that particular person who did everything wrong, and I did everything right, yet they won, why? Because dumb luck factors in they got a card at the river, and it changed the game. I gambled that I had the best hand, and yes pocket Aces is best but if the rest of the cards don't come you way then you are going to lose.
Gambling is for some an investment, which they will lose or win. I know of someone who wins more than he loses does this mean he is gambling yes according to his own words yes poker is gambling.
He is less likely to lose his gamble because of his skills, that is the difference.

I think it is gambling, as money is involed in the game while playing. It would had been a normal game if it was played without betting a single penny.

Aha! A trick question. It is both. To play well you do need to be able to have some card skills as well as skills in reading other people. The thing is that it is still gambling.

Anyone who claims that poker is a complete game of skill either doesnt play the game or doesnt play it properly. I play poker for a part time income and the only way i can do this is because i know how to play the game. Not just in the sense that i know what hands beat what but much more in depth strategies that the average player dont employ. If i were to play 1 hand with a beginner then it would be luck but if i were to play 500 hands then i would win out of skill. Naturally there is a certain degree of luck in the game, as there is in any game but poker contains much more skill than the 'average' casino game.

It's easily both. Gambling is anything where you wager on the outcome of an event. So, yes, poker is gambling. However, poker is a skill-based game with an element of luck, and in the long run the best plays always win the most/lose the least in any given situation, and the players that make the best plays will make the most money.

If you play poker with a money bet it is consider a gambling. But if you play poker for just and no money involve, it is consider a card skill. Having fun with this game is good to release your skill but sometime it can't release your skill if you bet with a money and you loose some huge money.
