Does you dog get jealous?

I don't mean nasty jealous but just a fiendly attitude to you if you get near to your partner/husband? My wife and I were just having a dance around the living room to some good big band stuff on the radio and our Jacko was going nuts! As is often these days we finished up both of us collapsing, (we are both in our 70's!!), on the couch in laughter with the dog all over us barking and trying to squeeze between the two of us just like a little kid. He's quite jealous of either of us and always wants to be involved. He's a good laugh and we love him dearly. How about your dog? I don't know maybe cats are like it too?

Well, first I have to say I thin it isso ovely tat you and your wife, still dance together roun the house! I think that is so swet, and romantic............... but I digress! And my answer would be - yes - cats do it too - ot at least some cats. My Sasha is more like a dog than a cat - he gets very jealous if I make too much fuss of my partner, or the other cats - and he has been known to attack anyone who he thinks is getting too close to me. I once had some builders in, and when I made them tea and biscuits, and one of them reached across me to get a biscuit, Sasha flew at him like a mad dog! I guess he thought he was protecting me. What a lovely topic though, and I hope you and your wfe carry on dancing forever!

Oh, we often dance in the kitchen or lounge, Rosie. I remember some years ago visiting my sister and her husband the four of us were dancing up and down the aisles to the music in a well known supermarket! All the other customers were looking on in shock and laughter!! We are what you would call.....NUTS!!

One of my cats is like that. From the moment I hug my boyfriend at the door to greet him, this cat is jealous. He just sits somewhere where he can watch us and looks on disapprovingly. Guess we should be giving him all the hugs.

I just passed the 70 mark and I know what it's like to dance around when the music starts. Just because we are larger than life senior citizens doesn't mean we lost our get-a-long. Age is merely a state of mind. I just turned 71 going on 17 and as long as I maintain that attitude I'll certainly live to be 100, although I'm sure some of my closest friends are hoping I won't be around that long to keep bugging them. hehehehe.

We adore our dog but he does get between my husband and I all the time. If we hug, all 109 pounds of him has to get in the middle of us. LOL When I try to wake my husband in the morning or my husband tries to wake me, he will actually start barking. A couple of times he actually snapped at my husband. That didn't go over too well. Now he will bark or growl a bit but at least he doesn't snap. The dog also get jealous when we play with our three year old and he will pick up one of his toys and try to put it in one of our hands. He doesn't offer his toys to the lil one as he knows that there is no "rough" play with him. :)

Our dog tried to give me a snarl and a growl or two. But that was when he was young and trying to impose his authority over me but its different now, he knows who is boss. Thanks for posting.

It sounds like the 2 of you really enjoy oneanother. Keep dancing around that livingroom! I love to hear things like that. As for the dog, he can have his fun later. It sure sounds cute though. I think my dogs are more protective than jealous. They surround me in a pack and bare their teeth at what they preceive as danger. That can mean man or beast. But with the family they are ok.

My dog does this all the time!!! It is soo funny. We have a teacup chihuahua and she has to be in the middle of everything. When we are on the couch she has to be in the middle. If I try to kiss my husband she gets into the middle and has to have kisses first and last no exceptions. Our baby is so awesome, I have asthma attacks and she goes and barks at daddy until he comes to help me. She has to be in the bathroom with us when we take showers, etc. We both think that it is the funniest thing we have ever seen!!!

I know exactly how you feel 'princess', Our Jacko sits outside the bathroom in the morning for each of us and sometimes he will push open the door if we don't put it on the latch. Very funny to see his face as I'm having a shave. I wonder what he is thinking? Thanks.

I've always considered it more that he just wants to be involved in everything. We have the same issue here - if we hug, he wants to be in on it. I think it's more curiousity/a desire to be part of things than actual full on jealousy though!

One of my dogs (a golden retriever) was very jealous. If we had visitors, he would go over to the visitors to be petted as he didn't like to be ignored. I bought him because he was supposed to be good with children, but he was actually jealous. As soon as I turned my back on him, he would growl at the children and on one occasion he bit my son. After that I had to get rid of him.

That was a shame Alexandria but you did the right thing. I would have done that too. A little surprising for a Golden Retriever I thought.

First off let me say congrats on being so active at your ages. I hope I am the same way. Now to jealous pets. My husband and I have 3 inside dogs, 2 Chihuahuas and a German shepherd. All three act worst than any jealous spouse. The two little ones sleep between us, and the big one would if she could fit on the bed. Anytime we are hugging they do their best to get our attention.

Sorry Lacey.......you will just have to get a bigger bed...!! Or perhaps sleep on the couch..!! The things we do for our pets even down to sharing our hugs. Lovely though aren't they? Thanks for your post.

Oh yes! We have a part shitzu part pomerian. He's my sook. He sits under my feet while i'm here on the computer, he gets on me when I'm on the couch and if my hubby and I are getting into the bed he'll jump in and get right up in my face. It's hilarious. And not to mention my almost 2 year old. If my 2 year old gets up in my arms the dog is right up there with him. They're so human it's unreal! But they are part of the family..so I guess they have the right to get jealous huh!

I know for sure that dogs are truly sensitive. I will never forget the way my dog used to be so possessive of me when I was a child. He didn't like my parents hugging and kissing me. He would always be in the middle. I always wonder whether he was possessive of me, or that he too needed to be treated like me, perhaps a bit jealous. He was very close to my father, and simply couldn't stand it when my father had his close friends at home. He would always interrupt their conversations and make it a point that these friends were second only to him. It was all really funny. But I see it as a show of great love. As in human relationships, the more you feel love towards that person, the more you feel hurt, and you tend to be jealous, at least inwardly when that person is showing some slight preference to others. So, I feel dogs think a lot like us.

I am in agreement with you 'Ashjoe' and dogs have had such a close relationship with us over the centuries that they must almost feel they are human too. Thanks for your post.

My mother and father's dog is jealous of my husband. For some reason she thinks the world revolves around him. She doesn't like us to sit next to each other, and if I put my hand on his knee or anything, she squeezes herself in between us. It isn't a nasty jealousy with her either. She is a HUGE black lab. She is also very protective of my son. She loves everyone!

Yes, our dog gets jealous too if we pay attention to each other. She is a labrador, and will try to push her nose between us when we hug. She also likes to get in on conversations. If we are standing up talking whe will get between us, in our line of vision and start to whine or grumble. She is two years old and we say she is worse than a two year old child when it comes to wanting to be the center of attention.

My cat does. Everytime we hug and kiss, she will come around miawing like saying, "hey what about me??" We used to pick her up and kiss her too. Of course then a lot of sneezing is involved since she is long haired cat.

This is funny! My little maltese dog is JEALOUS of our cats! If we are trying to pet our cats and my dog is there she will make sure SHE is pet first! She will make sure SHE is the one we hold in our laps. I tried to pet my dear little cat last night and call her over. There was Rainbow trying to nose my hand and get the attention I was trying to give the cat. Funny thing is my little dog will let our smaller than cat bullie her! She will let my cat smack her in the butt and then come to me like mommy help! The cat is like 6 or 7 pounds, my dog is almost 12 pounds. Yeah get the difference! My cat on the other hand needs attention! Jealous? Not really! But all the more needs to be let out of the room, pet and loved. We try to do our best seeing she is almost 15 in June and we dont know how many more years she will be around. The dog is almost 5. Yeah 10 years and the cat always wins in this house! *L*

I don't own a dog but I've shared a similar experience. I have a very good friend and I go to his house very often. He has a pet dog who tends to get a bit jealous. Every time I arrive at his house he starts jumping on me and following me up the stairs. A cute little bugger but as everyone mentioned, it can get irritating. I start to pet it then I stop. It starts making small growls and soft barks. If you continue ignoring him, he barks louder. So everytime I come over I have to make it go on the bed, next to me, and I pet him with my foot while playing a game console. It's pretty funny, if I dare stop it starts spazzing out. :P

Maybe a treat or two will make him content with your presence. He probably isn't quite sure of you and just wants to let you know he's there to look after the place a form of pecking order. Thanks for posting
