If your question is which language is the most widely spoken worldwide then I think it might be Mandarin, then Spanish and then English. Or is it Spanish then Mandarin...? One or the other anyway :-)

OK assuming I was right with my first guess that it's 1) Mandarin 2) Spanish 3) English ... the next two (according to my husband) are 4) Hindi and 5) Portuguese.

Highest in population doesn't denote it would be widely spoken. Still there's a chance that Chinese immigrants to other countries speak their native language.
The first place goes to Mandarin.
Second place is for French.
Third for English.
Forth place is occupied by Spanish.
Fifth place by Esparanto.

I read somewhere that Chinese (mandarin) is the most-spoken language. Their population of billions greatly contributes to this factor and China is climbing up to the steps of the US. Some say that China will soon be bigger than US but I think that's still a long way to go. It's probably because America is slowly losing its middle class while China is building up theirs. (well that's what the book of Trump says) So because China is a great investment, a lot of people have taken a great deal in learning Chinese (mandarin in particular because that's the national language of China - i'm chinese/filipino by the way and I know 2 kinds of chinese langugae) Well so maybe after Chinese is English, then Hindu (India also has a population of a billion i think), then maybe Spanish (a lot of people are part spanish i think,i'm 1/8), then Russian.
