How important is service to you?

I currently have a job which is related to customer service; the entrance area of a local attraction. So obviously, I have to smile and provide the best service ever, right? BUT I really don't get it when certain waiters just cannot seem to do their job right! I went to this restaurant and one of the waitresses' attitude was horrible. She will make ugly faces whenever she's told to do stuff. I'm like.. what the hell? Her service is just horrible. Other waitresses also tend to ignore requests.. and can even serve the wrong food! And I'm pissed at why she ain't fired. I should have lodged a complaint. So, just wondering.. how important is service to you? Since I'm working in the service industry, it is inevitable that I tend to prioritise service. And I think that the economy depends quite a lot on service nowadays.. So, what's your take?

Service should be important, we're paying for it. But too many people see their jobs as something that they have to do and take it out on the patrons. I remember many (many)years ago, when I first started working in fastfood - our trainer told us that the only difference people would see in our restraunt and the one down the street was our service. They would come back to the place that smiled at them. I tried to remember that when I worked with the public and it paid off. I was very popular with the regular customers. My advice is to praise and tip well the ones who have good customer service skills. Maybe the others will take the hint.

Thank you very much for your advice! If only more people could think like you.. then the world will really be a better place. =) Cheers.
