Good taste?

Why are most unpopular things associated with good taste, and popular things associated with bad taste?
Let's take music as an example:
Classical music isn't very popular, but if you listen to it, you have a good taste? (according to many)
But if you listen to hip-hop (like a billion other people do) you have bad taste?
Where's the logic in this? It's the same story with movies really...

Well taste is a matter of personal preference.
I would not say that my taste is any better then anyone else's but I personally prefer classical music or hip-hop, I find musci to be very relaxing. It relieves stress and tension and headaches. To me this is a good thing.
I like music that makes me feel good, the same thing in movies, I don't like violence, I don't like loud screaming or gunshots or war, I don't need to add more stress or tension in my life
