My favorite author is Feodor Dostoevsky. I have read most of his books and enjoyed all of them. But my favorite book is "One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich" by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. It is a very short book and a very good read.I would love to read more of his books but I couldn't find any more of his works Most of the 11th century authors including Tolstoy, Turgenev,Gogol are all brilliant Who is your favorite author and what is your favorite book?

I have read Feodor Dostoevsky's ( I think American publishers have spelled as Fyodor Dostoyevsky) The Brothers Karamazov. It is an excellently written book. I also like Anton Chekhov. Never read Leo Tolstoy.
I have also read The Inhabitants of Stephechekhov, and another book which I have forgotten the name now. Dostoevsky was a profound writer.

11th century! Everybody's entitled to a typo now and then. :-) I'd have a hard time choosing between Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. I guess I'm a 19th century kind of gal because I've never been able to get too interested in any of the modern Russians. Thought Dr. Zhivago was a total bore, and the movie was even worse.

Dostoevsky lived in the 19th century, whereas Tolstoy moved into 20th century though he was born in 19th century.
Take care!
