Anyone been to CUBA? Does it really look old and rundown?

I am planning to vist there one day to see what it is like. I understand it is just like most places with Night life and dancing, restaurants, cinema's and all that good stuff. Not to mention Hotels that are on the beach....WoooW!!
I love to travel so if you have been there or know stuff about this place in the Caribbean, please let me know.

I studied in Havana for one year and I liked it very much. Yes, it is very rundown and certainly you will wonder how people can live in the houses you'll see there. But this city has some kind of special spirit and in general the Cubans are really nice people. Of course, one has to be careful too since many Cubans have to live with shortages of all kind and therefore are trying to pull some money out of tourists.
If you are interested in history you'll find a lot of places to go to and not only in Havana. And the beaches are just wonderful.
