Money and Happiness?

Anna Nicole Smith's death got me to thinking. This lady had it all, beauty, fame, money and still she was miserable. I have heard people say that if I only had more money or if I was just famous. If I could just have bigger boobs, a face lift or a nose job. I would be happy. I don't think it works that way, I believe that while money can make life easier it or fame or beauty can't make you happy. Happiness has to come from inside you not outside.
What are your thoughts?

It takes work to be unhappy.
In order to be unhappy, one needs to dwell on what is making them unhappy. No one wants to think that what is really making them unhappy is themselves. The unhappiness comes from outside of themselves.
A Lifestyle does not guarantee a person's happiness. People who need more are people who are trying to relieve a personal deficit within themselves. Until they address the thing which is making them so ill in the soul, never will they ever experience true happiness.
It has little to do with decisions we are trying to make and the feelings we have about said decisions AFTER they have been made.
I'm with you. It comes from within, not from what you own

I think you are very right. You have to make your own happiness. Happiness and true contentment come from just being and enjoying who you are & where you are. I also think being grateful for what you do have is key in enjoying your life.

You are right, being thankful for what you have and not coveting what someone else has is very important and as you said enjoying who you are!

I really don't think fame will make your life easy or happy. I do agree that money wont buy you happiness, but it will buy you peace of mind and allow you to not worry about a lot of things.

I had a friend that had all the money he could ever need but he ever had peace of mind. He worry all the time about losing the money, he was never able to trust that the people in his life were there for the right reason and not there just for the money. So I am not sure that I agree with the peace of mind statement. Maybe for some but not for all.

Happiness is a state of mind, money does help a lot but some rich people they either can't get enough, they want everything, they can't find love and compassion, etc so money can not solve their problems because they are never content. also it's the mentality of people and how they use money and if they feel satisfied or not, I'm happy now but will be much happier if I become rich.. if money doesn't bring its own problems that is :)

I agree completely, if you are not happy with yourself, what's on the inside, money won't fix it. In fact it can even make it worse has it brings with it a new set of problems. I wish you all the best on getting rich! :)

Money will definitely make someone happier, but only in the materialistic aspect. Eventually, the elation experienced from having a fat wallet will die down; part of the fun in life is finding ways to make enough money so that you can be get that one thing you want. The emotional payoff of something you've busted your butt for months to get is much greater than that of getting something because you have money to waste.
Happiness is determined by the complacency of the self in life. Money will do no good to make one happy, as happiness can't be bought.

My thoughts exactly! Most people who become rich, wants diamonds, furs, limos, boats, giant houses, maids etc. etc..When I hear how these people BLOW their millions, I just want to cry thinking how that money could have saved the lives of starving children, people and animals. It just makes me sick! Where is their heart?

Sadly greed takes the place of heart so many times and we all suffer for it.

Money in itself does not make anyone happy.
People say that money cannot buy hapiness, but for some, it's merely a case of making it easier being sad.

I agree. You have to find what makes you happy, not make yourself over so you can be happy. You can have everything society thinks it takes to make you happy, money, fame, beauty, but if you don't have what makes you happy, everything else is meaningless.

I think that happiness is a state that can be achieved by being satisfied with what you have no matter how big or small that is. It is human nature to always want more. Newer things, better things etc. We spend our life trying to upgrade and in the process we miss out on the real living, the real happiness. Little things can make you happy!

Money can help a bit in contributing to your happiness, but the happiness it gives is one that lasts only until the next best thing is made available--the bigger house, the nicer bag, the newer computer/phone/DVD player. The thing is, it always keeps you wanting more so you're never completely happy coz you're never content with what you have.
A hug. Walking under the rain. Feeling the grass on your toes. Hot chocolate. A shoulder to lean on when you're sad. A family to go home to. Cliche but true: the best things in life are still free. :)

very true !! ur thoughts are really original i must say, wat i feel is money is not everything but yes its behind many and most of the things!!!, but attimes whn we have evrything we still feel empty thats wat human nature is .. to crave for things we dont have!! so wat we shud do is be happy and content in things we have , as by nagging for other things we might miss enjoyin the presentones, though dreamin and desiring is not bad but to takin things to extremes does hurt back, so one shud knw their own limits and boundaries and shud reconize themselves before prioratising things in life after all its just once we live right!!

I agree it is human nature to believe the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Learning to take care of the yard we have is a lesson worth learning.

My husband has his own business and he makes alot of money. The more money he makes the cheaper he gets. He says I spend too much. He only gives me two hundred a week and I can't use the credit card. He is a very miserable person and he is making everyone around him feel the same way. Money is a curse to me. Believe me money doesn't bring happiness. Take my word for it.

Some financial mean is necessary foir survival. Great deals of money can give you things you didn't have before but it definiotly does not buy happiness. I do think you have to be happy on the inside.
