God's will as opposed to my will

I'm a new learner. I'm not a Christian (yet) but currently asking lots of questions and opening up to everything. I am confused by one thing. Is it wrong to use your own will to get what you want as oppsed to just sitting back and letting God do whatever is His will? I'm wondering if it is considered sinful to repeat affirmations to myself such as "I am loving and lovable" or "Prosperity comes to me in waves of good fortune" or "my relationships are happy and fulfilling", If I'm hoping to become a more loving person, or hoping to be luckier in a financial sense or have better relationships. In this sense, is it also wrong or sinful for a young girl to "wish upon a star" for the perfect man to marry? Because I did that, and 3 months later I met the perfect man and now we are happily married. (I wasn't such a young girl, but it seemed like a very immature thing to do but I was desperate and lonely and it was a starry night and I just wished for the perfect man. I hope this isn't a stupid question. Thanks for reading this far.

Believe it or not, God wants the best for all of us. He loves us so much that he wants to give us the best. He wanted to give you a good husband, and he wants to bless your life in abundance! There is nothing wrong with saying words of affirmation. Granted, that is unless you are saying something like, "I can do anything because I am God!" That wouldn't be a healthy thing to say. I say words of affirmation to myself all the time. When I am thinking wether or not something is sinful or not, I always ask myself, "Is this act helping my relationship with God?" If the answer is no, you can bet that it isn't a good thing to do. As far as wishing, it is ok to wish, as long as you realize that it is God that answers all, and has blessed you with everything you have. Just give credit where credit is due. A star can't grant a wish, but God certainly can bless you beyond abundance!

Well if God would have been against humans using his or her will then he may not have rewarded him with one. So I feel it is right to use your will, because where there is a will there is a way, similarly God only help those who help themselves.

This is all so very right. Would that we could all think that way. You have a very positive attitude. If you believe something will happen it will and you believe in yourself. God gave us free will, but he also sends people our way to help us along. If you think negatively, are down on yourself, think you will never have enough money... then it seems to me you don't have faith in God. I also believe that God helps those who help themselves. That book is not going to get published if I don't finish writing it. A publisher isn't going to just knock on my door and ask me if I have something I want published (well... that could happen but I wouldn't trust a guy/gal who did that!). This brings us to "The Secret". It is much talked about. Oprah talked about it last week, Ellen did a few weeks ago, many people on myLot have seen the movie. I have it but haven't watched it yet but I have heard a lot of what it is about. You think positively, you feel it, you believe it and you must also ACT it. You cannot sit and wait for it to happen, but you can believe in anything. You can do anything. And God will be walking right along beside you enjoying the highs and carrying you through the lows. God bless.

"Is it wrong to use your own will to get what you want as oppsed to just sitting back and letting God do whatever is His will?" This is a misconception. God gives us wisdom and free will so that we are free to decide on whatever we want to be done. God commands us to work and not just sit down waiting for whatever will happen. God doesn't like lazy people. It is therefore right to use your own will to get what you want - God will not interfer. But God requires us to pray that our will would be done because whatever we want to be done if God does not allow us, that will never be done. Nothing would be done without God allowing it - good or bad. To understand God, naturally we should read and study His Word - the Holy Bible which is the truth. If we keep on supposing, this is just a one-way traffic - we know our own but we don't know what's that of God. God nowadays speaks to people thru the Holy Bible and we speak to God thru prayers.

Oh no I can tell you are new at this. I am more than happy to tell you the God we serve boasts of how wonderful you are too. He talks of the way and the purpose for which you were created. The scriptures are filled with his love and adoration of us. Look at what King David who was a man after God's own heart said in Pslams 139. I love it where the scripture says "I am fearfully and wonderfully made, marvelous are thy works and that my soul knoweth right well" The bible also tells us the Lord said" I came that you might have life and have it more abundantly" As far as marriage read 1st Corinthians chapter 7. So far there is nothing wrong with the things you say. It would appear you have the same wishes for yourself that God has for us. It would appear that your will is God's will and God's will is yours.

Hi Anakata2007, God loves us the way we are. We were a sinner before we receive Jesus, and we are a Saint after we receive Jesus. We don't have to do anything or do something to gain the love of GOD because He loves us no matter what. So, when we have a 'will' that 'perhabs' look like selfishly, or not His will; so what????? There is no right or wrong on that. It doesn't matter, He loves you the same. From my experience of knowing Jesus; I found out that I always at the end of the day, DEFINETELY go and do His will instead of 'my will'. I just couldn't believe how awesome He did that!
