I don't have a rice cooker, even if I did I doubt I would ever use it. My MIL has one and every time I have used it the rice comes out weird. Lately, I have resorted to the 5 minute rice because it is quicker. How often do you make rice that your noticed a difference in your power bill?

I have an electric rice steamer but I like the taste of the rice better when it is cooked in a regular cooking pot. I never noticed any change in the electric bill using the cooker, though. I have also tried steaming vegetables in the steamer and no matter what I do they seem "overcooked", so I have gone back to the old fashioned way with the pot for them also.

My mother used to cook in earthern pot using firewood. No one explain to you the real taste and aroma of food if cooked with natural power. Now the firewood is expensive and cannot use due to smoke it generates. We use the gas stove to cook by using rice cooker.

I normally cook rice using electric rice cooker and other foods using an electric hot plate. Luckily, my company is paying for my apartment rent, electricity and water bills, so i get to used to the most convenient way for me and am never bothered for the electricity bills. One good thing also, is that i have never experienced any power outage since i lived here. Even then if i will be the one to pay my bills, i guess i would still use electric rice cooker coz i might always end up getting my rice overcooked and sticking to the pot.

I just use a regular pot. A few months ago my mother purchased a rice cooker and I couldn't help but laugh at her. When she asked why I was laughing I said, why would you buy that when you already have a rice cooker? She claimed not to have one and I told her yes she did, but we all just called it a pot. LOL...I just don't see the point to a rice cooker when a pot works the same. Seems to me it's just something else to take up more space.

We still cook our rice the conventional way. We do have a rice cooker but my mom always want cooking on pot in a gas range coz she always complains about how high the electricity bill is.

i guess thats what most mothers are so concerned about. we always find ways to conserve energy so that we can save money for the future of our kids.

To save electricity, I cook the rice I need for a day. Rice cooked in the evening can be eaten till next day lunch time. Most often I eat cold rice. We need to save use of electricity. The price of electricity is getting higher everyday.
