open your mouth a little and gather your courage and by synchronizing your tongue lips and voice say "NO"

It's really hard to say "no" to a friend or even in a person that is starting to be your friend. But usually there are times that you really have to say no to them because of more important issues. What I do in this kind of situation is that I tell them directly that I can't. Then I have this urge to explain them why I said no. Then after our conversation I'd tell my friend that hopefully he/she understands my point.

If you are a true friend, you'll be frank to him. You will not pretend that you like but actually not. Be yourself. For sure he will understand you because yor are friends.
