I posted a discussion awhile ago about my puppy who had a condition called "swimmer puppy". Well, I just wanted to update you on her progress. For any one who wants to know more about Charlotte here is the original discussion.....

But anyway, we tried the ideas from a website but they didn't work so well. My boyfriend came up with this thing we put her in that helps her walk. Its hard to explain but I am posting a pic of the smaller version. He made a longer one for her. It helps her by keeping her legs together so she can stand. She walks the whole length but still has trouble when she is out of it. She is trying to stand up on her own. Its small progress but right now any little bit is good for me. Hopefully next time I post about her, she will be running.

Hi Brendalee that's really good news that she's making some progress.. however small...very inventive of your boyfriend(looks a bit like walking bars for humans) have you tried her in it with the walking aids too? although you probably have already...but the combination of the both may better her walking even more. That's really good news though that she's starting to improve.

The things on the website involved putting her upper body in a sock and then stuffing it with cotton balls. We were worried about it being too tight as she is a big puppy. We didn't like the way it fit so no we didn't try both of them at the same time. She walks very well and fast in between the boards. The vet knows and he actually liked our idea. Thanks for responding.

That is so cute and wonderful to hear that your puppy is starting to try and stand and walk. That is great news and am sure in no time she will be able to walk on her own. That is very neat how your boyfriend with that item to help your puppy be able to walk. I will definitely love to hear about it when she starts walking and running around. :-)

Thank you for your reply. I know she really wants to walk, I can tell by the way she looks up at me and whines. Her back legs are very strong. She kind of flings herself into the air. Thats good because most swimmer puppies don't have strong back legs either. It won't be long before she walks. I say maybe a week.

So glad there is progress. Young children and animals seem to have amazing abilities to improve their situations. Your loving care will make all the difference in the world. Continued prayers for this little critter. Thanks for keeping us updated.

brendalee,
i have a 4 week old swimmer and i have tried the sock the tshirt the wrap, none of them has worked a great deal, aside from the run which i have started already did you do anything else, the vet said if my little 1 doesnt improve in 2 weeks he wants to put her down but i am not going to let him, his such a happy little thing, hes always playing with toys and he can get around a little, not the most graceful but he tries his best, also how many times a day did you put charlotte in the run, i get a bit worried about over doing it and making it worse. i would be so grateful for any help.
thanx chris.

I'm so glad to hear of Charlotte's progress. I went back and looked at your old discussion so I'm very relieved to hear she is making progress. I have two new puppies and if anything happened to them, it would devastate me. The best thing is that Charlotte seems to have a spirit that perserveres. I imagine she got that from Charlie. : )
