what do you think is better, exercising in a gym or exercising on your own?
i'm currently trying to get fit and i do my exercise at home. i jog, do aerobics, and some strength exercises i learned from my past pe classes. but i'm also thinking about getting a gym memebership. what do you think is better?

i'd say the gym, because at the gym there are more facilities and its hard to be regular at home whie in gym there is also a sense of competition

that's right. one advantage of going to the gym is that there are professional trainers to guide you in your exercises.

I used to go to the gym everytime I have a free time. I do this to tone my body and bend all my muscles!;) When I started, the instructor would give me routines to develop specific parts of my body. I find it good to have someone lend a hand on me and it's actually for free, since it's already covered on my fees.
And after a year of doing it so, I decided to stop it and buy my self some lifting equiptments for me to continue it on my own. I've applied the routines that I learned from the gym and applied it here on myself. Now, I find this really time-saving and more practical when going to the gym..

yeah, i think that's a practical way to do things too. learn the basics first then you can do it on your own afterwards. thanks.

If you are doing fine doing it on your own, there is no need for you to go to the gym. How do you rate your achievements now that you are on your own? If you feel that you are achieving what you have aimed for, go ahead with what you are doing now. The good thing when enrolling in a gym is they are professionals. They will then make a program designed to meet your physical needs. They keep track of your progress, thus constantly, you will be undergoing a change in your gym activities from time to time until you get the shape that you want.

right now, not really. i am losing some weight but i feel that my technique is not very acurate. i think i will achieve better results if i go to a professional so i'm scouting for a good gym to go to now.

I have 3 kids and dont get to the gym as much as I like to but I do exersize at home on the days I dont get to go. I much prefer going to the gym than doing a video or just going tfor a walk but at this point I take what I can get

i also agree that its better than following videos. because sometimes videos run on their own pace. it it might not be right for your level.
i just want to share also since you mentioned that you try to get as much as you can. you can do things in the house that can count as exercise like gardening, doing chores, etc.

Doing both if you can afford it. Cause by yourself you can get discouraged but if you make a goal to go to the gym 3 times a week you want to go cause you paid for you time to be there and you can get in shape. Plus-you meet people that won't judge you for trying to lose weight or get fit. Everyone is there for the same thing. But-you want to start yourself so you feel like you can do it and access if that's what you want to do. I find working out myself by a schedule works real well. Like I'm going to do this this many times this many times of the week. So then I schedule it out to fit..and if there's bad weather rearrange it. Cause I can't stick to time schedules or do this many then this. I break it up so I can achieve it.

i was also thinking of the same thing. since i satrted doing it on my own already, the gym could go hand in hand. thanks.
