As most of you might be knowing that Linux is an open source OS. How many of you would like Microsoft to release its source code, like Linux distributions? I personally would simply be too overjoyed... To put it in other terms, I just wondered how many of us are with the notion that Microsoft should release its souce code!!!

I don't think they should really. Personally i think it would be a huge mistake for microsoft as this wouldn't help them in anyway and nothing good will come from it imo. I can see why people would be interested but i'm not. Microsoft need to focus on bigger and fix there products which have been rushed for release. Kudos! ~Joey

But don't you think that Microsoft's market is slowly but steadily being taken over by open source Linux distributions. They are so eager to recapture the same that they have been making huge raids recently to stop piracy... Releasing their souce code would certainly help them win the marketing war with Linux hands down...

Don't expect Microsoft to release its source code at all. First, because the company is very commercially aggressive and have absolutely no intentions to give any thing for free to the users. Second, rumor has it that Microsoft's code is very nasty to the point where nobody at Microsoft knows exactly all the details of the implementation. So, releasing the source code will certainly blow the image of the company in the eyes of the public. Microsoft, have been working very hard to hide all the ugliness of the source code under the carpet, or should I say under the GUI :)

Microsoft management is smarter than that. The penetration of Linux into the market is still slow. But, the high-tech market is very unstable and everything is possible. To counter a potential linux threat, Microsoft signed an agreement recently with Novell re. Suse Linux. Analyzers think that this agreement only benefits to Microsoft and not to Novell. Basically, Microsoft told Novell, sign the agreement or I am going to sue your clients for using patented products.
