i cant use all my computer programs, all the programs links seems to fail

i am using a diffrent computer right now since i cant use mine. all the program icons( in desktop and even in the start menu programs) are still present but are in an unknown format expect for my document, my computer and recycle bin. i can open my files on their respective programs itself. i think all. ink and .exe files were th ones affected or the computer cant read the .ink of .exe files..CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS????

I think your windows registry must have got flushed off and btw its .lnk,they are called link files.The shortcuts mostly have these extensions.I'm not sure why your registry got flushed.It could be a virus attack too.I cant really day unless i see it.If only a few programs refuse to open then those must have got uninstalled by somebody or even by you accidentally.
If its the whole bunch of them in the start up menu then you should try formatting the computer or atleast re-installing them.But do back up your files before you format your computer or use the system restore option.The system restore is a very useful tool but if you rub it the wrong way you sure to loose much.Let me know if the problems over or if you need help from my end.
