Pollution and SUVs.

Considering the pollution, should SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles) be available to general people? My discussion is specially pointing out those SUVs which are giving less mileage and diesel operated. Since SUVs are a status-symbol and stylist vehicles people are using it in cities.In my opinion these should be available for rental only so that people can use it in long journey. What do you say?

Emmision standards are fairly close for all vehicles. Also, the emmisions produced by all the cars in the whole world are no where close to the amount put off by the earth itself.
