Horse back riding can be a sport! Dressage and racing competitions.
Horse back riding is a hobby when you are young you have an animal to care for and join 4-H and maybe win a ribbon.
Hose back riding is for fun when you can gallop along and enjoy the open air and you and the horse are happy.
Hope you get the opportunity to ride someday, it will use muscles that you never knew existed.

I've owned and rode horses since I was 5 years old (now am 57) and I think riding is all that you mentioned. When I was a teen I rode in competition, barrel racing, pole bending, horse shows, and stuff like that...that was the sport part of it. It's also a lot of fun. Now that I'm much older I just ride for the pleasure of it. While it's no longer a sport for me, it's probably now more of a hobby (of sorts.) Have you ever ridden a horse? It's a lot of fun!
