Is it legally posible for a father to dis own his child?

I have had so much about parents that claimed they have disown their children. I want views of people on this subject. Is it legally possible for a father to disown his child? If it is possible, how can it be done legally? Is there any legal action the child can take to prevent it?. I want sincere contribution on the subject with practical experiences.

It is completely possible! The day after I was born, my biological father "disowned" me. Also known as giving up his rights to me as my biological father. As a child who has "gone through this", I believe that I am better off for it. It is his loss not mine, that he gave me up. He missed out on getting to know a great person. His daughter. Me.
