I got a new mobile a few weeks back , I always had a very basic one , This one flips open and takes pictures and can go on to the Internet , My granddaughter was in to visit tonight and asked me if I would like a new ring tone , In no time at all she had downloaded me Elvis singing " caught in a trap"
Now me I am terrified to press too many buttons lol and when it says Internet I switch the phone right off lol , she was in fits of laughter , Takes me forever to do a text and she does it without looking at the blooming keys lol ,
Am I the only one frightened of mobile phones lol
Now give me a PC and that is a different matter , I love it lol

I'm with you all the way when it comes to new fangled technical gadgets, don't laugh but I got an upgrade for my mobile a month back, brand new Nokia phone, but I haven't used it and it's still in its box, I can't be bothered with setting it all up and transferring the data across and getting used to the phone. I only use my mobile for texting and only in an emergency will I use it like when I've broken down and need to call someone out. I am not technologically minded and I panic if something goes wrong with the computer, it's an Apple so not many know anything about them and I left to my own devices.

I'm with you on this one. I am very much clueless when it comes to mobile phones. All I know just press the key to make a call, or press the green button to answer the call. I really don't know anything about ring tones, or text messaging. Very very ignorant of me. It's just that, I find it so complicated.
Give me a laptop, I'll design a website for you, and I could type any message without even looking on the keyboard. lol
Mobile phone? Please.. no. I'm scared.

I do use text messaging though, but not to the extent that it replaces the human voice. It is not too complicated, just that I don't really like texting with mobile all the time. Yes I can type without looking at keyboard too, but designing a website fails me. Do you have some professional web templates to recommend?

Oh you lucky woman, I use only the basis one, the kind that you have I think so much about buying one. I don't blame you at all not wanting to press to many buttons, I would be afraid that I would break my mobile unless one of my daughters came and explained to me how they work. Yes the technology is so advanced today it is hard for us to keep up with it all!!

My great aunt who's approximately 74 now has a mobile too. She's terribly cute with it, because she's CONSTANTLY either losing it or getting a new number which she can't remember. At all. So whenever she gets a new mobile, she goes for the simplest ones with the least possible options and it's up to me or my cousin to fill it up with all her old phone numbers (that she keeps on a bit of paper) or to tell her how to call someone.
The other day she was looking at me when I was on the computer, and she asked me to teach her how to use one! She didn't understand how to grasp the mouse, so she had a terrible control over the cursor (and she kept on asking me how I could be so precise when she wasn't). That was her last attempt, but I'm sure she's still very curious about it and would love to try out some more!

My mom's like that. after her stroke ( a few years back) The PC was there, but she never ask anybody to teach her before. coz of the stoke she had stayed in the house for the longest time she could imagine. She had ask for help but only play games in the pc (text twist and other mind games) when she had her turn to have my sisters old phone, I had to teach her everything about it, from calling to answering text messages.

I always replace my mobile phone every time a new technology comes out because I love to explore new things and I love to see what the new mobile phones can do. By the way, I only focus on Nokia's technology. I love the auto focus of N73.

Good question, I can understand and get on board with everything. Seems like every time I have a new phone, another amazing one comes out. The thing I'm wondering is if I can ever afford the next new cool trend.

I always laugh at my mum as she seems to take forever to send a text too, and I always ask her if she is writing a story. I have to admit I do not use everything on my mobile and always ask hubby if do not know how to do it, as he is quite good with technology. I have never gone on the internet on my mobile as never really needed to. I mainly use mine to send text messages and send photo's.

Yes, finally I decided to use a mobile with basic features since I'm not going to use the advanced ones. So I don't really bother, even with downloading ringtones lol. And if I forget to close the internet connection after downloading, I'd get billed for being online, so I don't use the phone to access internet.
For PC, that's a different story, I experimented it with different operating system and lots of useful freeware programs. :D

Last night my husband bought new mobile phone Nokia it got so many technical things like GPS,WAP and 3G support and trust me i dont undestand any of these words until yesterday.
Then I started exploring the mobile gradually starting from basic function to intemediate function and then advance functions.
So rather than taking steep curve i started doing one functionality at a time.
So from my experience i think u should get hands on basic functionality and then opt for advance one.
Wish you steady and smooth learning(transition ):)

Well indeed technology has advanced and for a guy like me who keeps up with the latest technology had experience in this. I know it can be very confusing to see it become so complicated because old phones were just there for making and recieving calls but the new ones are more advanced and support a lot of new features. I think first you need to read the manual that came with your phone to see it's capabilities and then you can just play around with it. Yes playing around is important and you can easily gain a lot of knowledge. Don't be afraid to try new things, if it goes on the internet just press option and disconnect, it's very simple all you need to do is just play with it, if you still feel insecure, just stay away from the security settings and that's it! I sometimes use my phone to log on my messenger and to check e-mails and do other stuff. Well, Good Luck ! In no time you will get the hang of it :)

Oh for goodness sakes, thanks to the kids we older folks can keep up.I use to be intimidated by the p.c. but the kids helped me and now it's fun.You will get use to the phone soon enough.I use to be afraid of messing up my grandaughters pc but thankfully never did.Have fun soon you'll be an expert and wonder why you were so afraid.

This is the same case that used to happen with my mum. She could only make the call or recieve a call. Rest of the time she was quite afraid that what to do and what not to do. I feel that it happens with all of us sometimes. Now take me for example. The first time I saw the computer, I thought it tobe a sophisticated thing and thus tried to be very careful with it. But over a period of time, I satrted using it like anything. Now This is the same thing with mobile phones. Just imagine if I get a palmtop.......I will be scared to use it. Although I have used many mobiles and PCs but then also there will be a feeling inside me that I might break it. It happens. Its the nature of human to adopt changes after a short time.

I have no problems with getting used to the new technology given the fact that i was born right about the time mobile phones were beginning to replace pagers. However, i do think agree with you on the point that it does get hard at times when you have been out of touch with a technology for a long time . No fear of anything tech based here :D

New gadgets are always fun. Especially to the younger generations. Not only do they make life easier, but makes us look cool too.
