so if firefox is the best web browser then which version is best for windows ME?

Actually, Opera is superior to Firefox in terms of HTML and CSS. When it comes to Javascript and some other scripting that I've forgotten, Firefox is best. Whichever you wish to opt, the best version should be the latest. Firefox says at least Windows 98 to run it and recommends Windows XP, so it should be fine for a Windows ME.
