Can a city change you???

My company temporarily sent me, along with a few other coworkers, to a different location. I was there for 6 months and just got back last week.
Before I left I had been having a tough time here. I don't like this city, I don't like the people here, and I don't really get along with a lot of people I work with. I was always very bitter. I had been in a long distance relationship, so for the most part I would leave town on the weekends. This was always the highlight of my week.
I was sent away to a much larger city. Me and the few coworkers that were there got to know each other and got along really well. I made a lot of new friends and had a lot of fun there.
Now it's back to reality though. Being back seems very surreal. I've only been here a few days but I'm already starting to feel suffocated by this place. I tried to have a more positive outlook coming back, but almost immediately it was very clear to me why I hadn't liked it here. I'm back to being bitter, and I broke off my long distance relationship a while ago, so I have nowhere to run to on the weekends.
You're probably thinking "if she hates it so much why doesn't she just leave". Well I made a 2 year commitment to this company and I intend to keep it. I only have 6 more months to go and then I definitely want to leave. I'm counting the days already.
But enough complaining on my part. My question to you is, can a city really change you that much? Or is it just me?
