I have been embroidering for about thirty years. I started with cross-stitch and then progressed onto candlewicking and then silk ribbon embroidery. I embroidered the train for my daughters wedding dress, as well as the flowergirls dresses and headbands. I have tried most types of embroidery, but my favourites are Stumpwork and Raised Embroidery.

I like to embroider but have kind of got out of the habit lately. I'm not sure I know what you mean by freestyle embroidery. I like doing solid embroidery because it looks so impressive when it is finished.
A couple of years ago I taught two of my grandchildren, a 10 and a 13 year old boy and girl to embroider. They thought it was great fun, but I'll have to ask them if they have tried it since they got home. It seems like sports fill up the time kids used to spend on crafts and sewing projects.

By freestyle, I mean embroidery that uses a variety of stitches, such as long and short, satin stitch etc opposed to just cross stitch.
I design most of my own work and have even made a cyclamen plant using a cake decorating book as inspiration.
I taught my daughters as well, but only my middle daughter has kept it up. I aslo taught my cousin (who had never lifted a needle) and her sister-in-law. My cousin has kept it up and progressed to patchworking and quilting as well.
