A meal worth $ 25,000!

Would you pay $25,000 dollars for a meal? I think it's absurd! Here's the story: It’s been billed as the “meal of a lifetime,” a 10-course dinner concocted by world-renowned chefs for the most discriminating palates and — at $25,000 a head — the fattest wallets. And that doesn’t include tax and gratuity. Few expenses were spared in putting together Saturday night’s culinary extravaganza in Bangkok. For those who want to read the rest, here's the link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11457518/?GT1=9033 Here's my question: would you spend that much for a meal? Do you think it's normal or do you think it's crazy? And do you think there's such a thing as a "meal of a lifetime?"

OK, these are my answer. Would you spend that much for a meal? NO. Do you think it's normal or do you think it's crazy? Neither. I think it is a mix among egoist, arrogance and ignorance. With those money, we can give food to one country in Africa. With those money, we can build one province in Asia. With those money, we can save thousands of children life. Do you think there's such a thing as a "meal of a lifetime"? Ya. When I am traveling to the place where I will never go there again. Just once in my lifetime I eat those local food. But the answer can be no, if the meaning of "meal of a lifetime" only about the price. I will pay more for good food, it is true, but not meaning "with any kind of price".

sure wouldn't. first of all no meal is worth that. i don't care how much food it is i'm not paying such an outrageous amount for something i'm going to eat and never see again. i could buy a nice car for that price. i think it's crazy and people need to get a grip. second thing i couldn't eat that much food. so it wouldn't be worth it for me at all. i don't think it's really worth it for anyone. i don't think there is any such thing as a meal of a lifetime. because you'd die tryin to eat it all.

If you think that's a big deal, I read in todays newspaper about a meal in a posh Indonesia/Malaysia?? Hotel about a meal costing over $1000000 per head, which was being attended by, reportedly, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie; further, out of the special banquet being arranged for the forty, 13 are privileged guests while the rest are paying up for their meals! Want to go? I'll have to dig up the details for you...!

I correct myself please! Actually it is the same meal you were referring to! It has been priced at approx Rs.1.4 million (Indian currency) and mentioned in the paper as $28000 per head. And the paying guests are 25 and non-paying celebrities are 25. You're right, its in Thailand.

That's absurd. To pay $25,000 for a dinner, no matter how rich you are, is not a good use of money. If you have that kind of cash, maybe you should be donating it to charity or helping other people instead of squandering it on one meal. But imagine for a second that you're worth $1 billion dollars. All of a sudden $25,000 0.0025% of your fortune doesn't sound like that much. It'd be like someone with $30,000 buying a hamburger for $1 at McDonald's. There are just disgustingly wealthy people in the world, and I guess these people are catering to them. If I were that wealthy, I still just wouldn't feel right spending what's almost equivalent to the average salary in this country on one meal.

my mistake it would be 0.00000025% of $1 billion. So to put it in perspective it would be like someone with $30,000 spending $0.75. Isn't that obscene?

I have a rich friend .. (down to earth and very ordinary though) .. he talks about spending thousands of £££'s with the same ease I would go out and spend £5 .. as he says when you are that rich anything less than a £20 note doesn't even register as 'money' ... But, he's one of the 'good guy' rich folks .. he gives HUGE amounts to charity .. bless him !

in my opinion, its not normal if we spend $25,000 just only for food. coz its a big amount and we can do many better things for our own selves or others. but ya....for some people who has high class, its normal spending but this people only little group of communities. its better if we use money very wise and well although we have lots of money :)

totally crazy. even if i have a lot of money i dont want to waste it for just like that. $25,000 is huge money for just a meal. to think there are many people starving on the street, i would rather help those people than just waste for just like that.

I'd have a hard time even paying $25 for a meal..LOL. You look at some of the dishes put togehter by worls famous chefs and there is hardly anything on the plate and what is looks disgudting to me. Give me a good old fashioned plate of fish and chips any time.

I don't think any meal is worth $25,000. There are dinner parties people go to and pay about that much but it's for charities, not so much the food. I'm sure the food was really good but it shouldn't be that pricy. I love food but I wouldn't spend that much on a meal. If I had money to where $25,000 was pocket change then I would try it out.

It's probably called the meal of a lifetime because of its price and the chefs that concocted the dinner. I would probably spend that much if I'm a millionaire and if the dinner is for a special cause....or charity maybe. But to spend that much for a dinner without any reason at all is really absurd. I can feed a lot of hungry people with that amount of money. I'll be more happy to know that I have given a lot of people their meal of a lifetime rather than spend it on one dinner.

LOL I know that I have already responded earlier to this thread! Just last nights Valentines night Graham and I went out for a meal at a really nice Resteraunt near to home! Had a nice 3 course dinner with 2 drinks each and had the change from £15 as we had our night on a 2 for 1 offer! Big difference from the $25'000 meal that you told us about in the news! There is no way that Graham or I coul;d ever afford $25'000 for one meal each, and dont think we could ever clear through a 10 course dinner either lol Lynn-Marie

I would never even consider paying that much for a single meal. $25,000 is just really absurd and excessive. Imagine how many other people could've been fed with that amount, or all the other things you could've bought and actually used with that money. I think the best meals of your life don't necessarily have to be the ones that are most expensive, but the ones you've thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end with a great group of people.

I would never spend that much money on food, even if I was a millionaire.I rather spend it on other things than food. Thats crazy, but if that is what people want to do, I guess they can do what ever they want with there money. And I do not believe there is such a thing as a meal of a lifetime,

I've heard about that. there is also a certain cuisine made in Asia that includes gold powder as one of the ingredients so it costs so much. I wouldn't bother eating gold, I prefer they are in blocks.

I think this is crazy and I'd never spend that much on food! You can get a great meal for under $50 and you can do so much else with the remaining money that I find it frivolous to waste it on food that you put in your body and eventually get rid of later on.

Wow!!!that sounds like I'm spending for almost 3-5 years of my meal expenses. It's so expensive but I think someone could effort and maybe spend a lot more than this.

No way, the money would be better spent giving it away to someone that needs it then that, I can get good quality food for much less so why pay more? I sure wouldn't. But if you have the money and want to do it, well I'm not stopping you, but I'd prefer using the money for a good cause if I was rich, and if I wasn't rich I'd be stupid to waste it on that when I need to use it on other things... ---------------------------------------- Just an opinion in a sea of thoughts ----------------------------------------
