I went to a friend of mines for supper tonight and her 9 year old daughter was talking about her "boyfriend". She would make her cell phone ring and have a pretend conversation with him including saying I LOVE YOU at the end. My daughter is not even thinking about boys yet so this is very weird to me. Her mom said that she has a different one every other day and even writes herself letters! Is it ok for the mother to let this go on?. I personally don't think so but please tell me if I am wrong!

I think it's like having an imaginary friend as well. The girl clearly has some issues. It might be some emotional attachment that she needs from her parents or other people around her. I think she should see a psychologist.

Wow that's kind of out there. When I first started reading this all I could think of was my cousins girlfriend. Oh boy did she have issues. She lived constant lie, she went so far as to fake a pregnancy and pee her pants saying her water broke. She then had a friend call my cousin and say he was a doctor and the baby was a boy and fine... I certainly hope this poor child isn't headed in the same direction. I know kids have imaginary friends but I think she's taking it a little past normal for her age. I would certainly be asking a professional about it just to be on the safe side. I'm no doctor or specialist but it just doesn't seem quite right, like just over the edge a bit. I would try and get your friend to at least look into it, perhaps mention it to here doctor at the very lest. Good luck, I'm sure your friend may be in denial as most people don't want to see any problems with their children. I do think you are right.
