Wikipedia has an excellent article answerring this question, but since I can't cut and paste yet, let me summarize - The D doesn't stand for anything but it's military speak for the D-Day and H-Hour that a plan will be put into effect. Therefor, if we decided to launch an operation at 3:00 on June 2, June 2 would be D-Day, and 3:00 would be H-Hour for the operation. Type D Day in wikipedia.org for more details. Hope it helps!
