Do you really need talent to be a writer ? Now here me out on this one.
Think about those who write letters. It doesn't take skill or sever studies to know how to pour your heart into a letter. Yet we do it so naturally.
We get a letter from a loved one it seems that much more special than a phone call. It emotionally it touches someone.
The letters are also admired many times by generations after it was written.

I think letters fro loved ones already make it special because someone we CARE about wrote it. However, if you don't know the person writing the book, paper, article, etc, they have to know how to put the words together and how to make you care about it, or make you feel good about it to really make you like it. Writers definitely need talent.

I think maybe you are confusing the term "writer" with "published writer". Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how good the content of a piece is, if the spelling, grammar and punctuation isn't up to par, it won't even be read, let alone published. Editors and publishers simply don't have the time to waste on inferior copy.

There are a lot of diffrent writers, journalist, novelist, etc. I believe that you do need talent to be a writer. If you didn't need talent then people like Steven King would be unemployed becasue there would be no use for him with all of the other writers. In order to write a letter, all you need is a heart, but to write a novel you need an imagination, good grammer, and a lot of skill in order to be able to get anyone to read it.

Yeah sure anyone can write. But not everyone can write well enough that people will actually want to read what they are writing. If you write a letter to a loved one it doesn't matter how good or bad it is. Since they love you they will love what you've written. But writing for other people needs a lot of talent or you will be largely ignored and you definitely wont be able to make a living out of it.

I know what you mean. I submitted a short story to a contest one time. When I got it back it was covered in red. Mostly becasue I wrote outside the critirea of the contest and I focused on the wrong selection of audience for the material.
But when I related the story to my family, they were impressed and thought it was very realistic.
It's a pitty my family aren't in the business of publishing.
So I see your point. Thanks for the comment.
