What's up with all the name calling?

I've read more than enough posts about people name calling other people. Someone feels that "fatties" should be swept off the face of the earth. That offends me greatly. Another person feels that women are "lazy" nowadays because they don't "cook, clean or sew anymore?" I'm beginning to feel like we've come this far in terms of being open-minded in this day in age, to going back to times when there was so much prejudice. I don't understand why someone would feel like "illegal aliens" (which i think the name alien is so offensive) should go back to where they came from. I mean I understand people took a long time in terms of paperwork and so forth, to get here themselves, but my question is, why pass judgement on people who you are not in their shoes? First of all, America was not won "legally" if anything, it wasn't a peaceful situation. They actually stole it from someone else. But everyone wants to forget that and pretend like it never happened. And now America wants to play it safe and have everyone fill out papers in order to come here. I'm not saying it's the right or wrong thing to do, I just think people are prejudice to certain things and people that they don't understand. What do you think? Have you had enough or what?

Oh PULEEZ don't mention illegal aliens to me that is my hottest peeve. I hate the name aliens. It was given to me by the US government, once a legal alien I was not from another plant I did not arrive in a spaceship. I worked for the US government for 12 years before I came to the states, been married to an American for 8 of these years. I entered the US LEGALLY, went through all the paperwork got a job, paid taxes, obeyed all the laws of this country and finally became a US citizen. Why in the name of blazes should they not have to do it by the rules and regulation of this great country. If they don't do that then ship them back to wherever they came from. GRRRRRR!
As for the other name calling people they are pathetic individuals who have nothing better to do or not intelligent enough to realize they are only making themselves look bad.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, whiteheather39. When my grandparents came to the US, they came legally, abided by the rules, learned English, then became citizens. The ones who come here today ILLEGALLY are taking advantage of our country and getting free health care (we legal citizens can't get that in most cases) and other things. Now they want to give Social Security to illegal aliens. Isn't it in bad enough shape already? Why give it to people who are here illegally and have never paid into it? They broke the law to get here...send them home and let them come into the US legally or not at all.
I also agree with what you said about other name calling.

Well, you know what I saw some of them very same topics and Just as real life...You have some people that have nothing else better to do than Ruffle up people feathers, name call or anything else negative just to piss the next person off...Just another sign of immaturity...
Some people are so stuck on themselves and see nothing wrong with themselves, but in reality, they are miserable...
Furthermore, those people that namecall and try to find everything wrong with the next person are really the insecure ones..How simple can one be to call people out of their names or talk down about someone..For all you know that particular person may have thyroid issues (who are obese) or going through personal issues of their own...That doesn't make it our problem to talk bad to them if anything encourage them, help them, modivate them...Or that woman don't prefer to sew..Hell I know I don't sew..But that doesn't make me lazy...I was going to respond to that topic, But, I bit my tongue..lol lol...
One thing about me, if it really really bothers me, I'm better off not responding to those kind of topics...I can't stand a judgemental person who based their information off either how they were raised, or how they look etc...It would be a waste of my time to respond to something so immature....
The bottom line is, Those People need to mind their own business as to why the next person is the way they are...If I, personally, didn't fell like not cleaning my house, sewing or whatever else "IT'S MY BUSINESS" especially when I didn't ask for anyone elses opinion...
They so worried about everybody elses faults except their own...I ignore em and if they ask my opinion as to why..BY ALL MEANS, I don't have a problem keeping it real...
I'm with you...Just goes to show through topics, how disrespectful some people are...
Great topic...

This has been going on for so long that I almost donĀ“t even react to it anymore. It is sad but people are just so cruel at times. I have a rule though. I will make sure that I will never be like that =)

I believe that there will always be people out there that are threatened by those around them, and thus, they resort to name calling. Our, republican president, has made more enemies for us in this world, and he has turned this nation against each other numerous times since he has been in office. He has made differences bigger between races, religions, men and women, rich and poor, etc. He actually made situations that were not so bad, or bad already, worse. So, here on mylot, I feel that people are angry and take their anger out on each other. There needs to be kindness and respect, and understanding. Sometimes, all it takes is one person...that one person can do something for the good, or continue this bad, vicious cycle.

Prejudice has always existed, be it racial prejudice, religious prejudice, sexism, fatism, etc. I feel saddened that the world has changed so little and that this still exists.

Well for some reason My post has been taken out of context so many times that it is ridiculous! I am not even here to defend myself nor should I have too. I am a stay at home mom who for a very long time Worked a full time No more than full time job as a restaurant manager and was a single mom at the time of three children. I till managed to cook and clean a house and sew on occasion for my kids. I was of course not the super mom I am today because I spent 75 hours a week at a restaurant! What I was talking about waswoman u=young woman who have NO SKILLS none whatsoever they do nothing some of them I know do not even have jobs and yet they still do nothing maybe I see an abundance of this because I happen to live in a college town and they all end up here after HIGHER learning! Whatever but I was not name calling. I do however find it sad that in our effort to be like Men and work at full time carrers our children are losing great moms! I only see that now that I stay home FUll time! Oh yes and I do agree about illigal aliens they should go back if they are not legal! I am american Indian Cherokee choctaw out of oklahoma!

Thank you for clarifying that for me. I was a little frustrated with the title at first, but I think I understand where you're coming from in terms of your discussion posting. As for the illegal aliens, I'll kindly agree to disagree. I just don't feel like they should be treated as aliens just because they don't have papers vouching their legal.

I know I have had enough name calling since grade school to have it read in here about being overweight. So I take offense myself and as far as forign people go. I'm not one but I have friends that are and my doctor is one so I don't understand people that cut them down so I agree with you on this post :)

I think that people are so cruel in today's world. Everyone has to bash everyone. The don't realize how much it hurts. If they do know that it hurts its because they are going back from what has happened to them. I hate people anymore today.

a lot of people do that everywhere. i don't like it when i hear people call names. that's why i scold my kids whenever i hear them do that.
but, they hear it from other people so it's quite hard to prevent them from doing that. but still i explain it to them hoping that one day they'll realize that i am right.
you're right people should stop name calling.

Sawsen - thanks for your post. I believe the "fat" post was put there by an immature person who let's face it shouldn't even be in the service industry if that is their attitude to people who are paying customers and therefore keeping HER in a job.
As for the term "illegal alien" - I contributed to that discussion and I think my attitudes are there for all to see - enough said about that.
I think people are scared of others who are "different" (however much they proclaim that isn't the issue with them, it usually is at the root of it) and are scared of having "their" culture highjacked like their ancestors did in the past to others, and shock horror, maybe even having to change and grow as a person or adapt in some way to accomodate others. It's all so inconvenient. ;-)

i have two sides to my opinion on this. first off, people "name call" mostly because they're immature and ignorant. they need to grow the hell up. they don't have any real facts to go against something so they resort to insult, which is cowardly. i definitely think the offensive remarks need to stop. but on the other hand people take things too damn personally these days. they think everything is politically incorrect and rude. i don't see how the term illegal aliens is offensive. alien is defined as someone who is not native of the country that they're in. do you have any idea how poor of an economy we would have if we just allowed any person to come into this country? people these days expect everybody to walk on egg shells because the fear of offending someone. people get offended too easily these days. and women are getting lazy these days along with men. not because they don't do the specifics like cooking and cleaning, but just because we have machines and appliances that does all the work for us. the bottom line is people need to stop going from one extreme to the other. people need to stop making rude and unnecessary remarks about things they don't understand and people need to stop taking everything so personally and crying.

I totally agree with you. I cannot believe how ignorant and cruel the american people have become. They don't seem to care that people have feelings and what angers me most of all is the fact that these name callers are not perfect themselves and are in no position to be calling anyone names!

I think that those who call other people names only do that because they have been called names so they just think its cool to cal anothe person a name

I don't like the name calling either. But we must remember that only some people have very strong and negative feelings about others. There are also other people who don't name call or hate anyone so we can't forget about these kind people. America isn't the only place that carefully controls migrants. There are many reasons why they have to be strict. But what really bothers me is when people of a certain country forget that their own people tend to migrate to other countries too. Like you find Americans migrating to all parts of the world and because they carry the green card they think they're way up there. You also meet a lot of Australians who don't like the Asians migrating to their land. But then you visit Asia and you see a bunch of Australians who have migrated there. So all this happens all the time, we should just move with times and accept all this. I believe that this situation is getting better. Our kids and their kids are more open-minded and accepting.

people who resort to this kind of behaviour should be pitied because it is their own insecurity that makes them have to put someone else down to enable them to feel good so feel sorry for them.

Yep, I have also been noticing a lot of these posts like this latley. I have seen some where there should be a law about what overweight people should eat. I feel pretty bad for overweight people because some of them just can not control what they eat and it isnt their fault but then someone has to make fun of them or offend them isn't really needed at all. I also see what you mean by you've had enough. I will tell you about a story when I was offended on the forums just yesterday. I was offended when I saw the post "All christians will burn in hell" I was offended because I am lutheran and that is a religion that is christian and I was just offended by that post so I do see where you are coming from here.

name calling is such an overrated attack on someone. the mere thought of calling someone because of negative characteristics they have is so insulting they should make it a crime. it may not hurt people physically but mentally it does a lot of damage. if these people who do such is so gifted they should just shut themselves up and cherish whatever good they have because it won't be forever.
