Well here is a very different story which i had read in briefcase of TOI titled THE TREASURE.Here the author says with her gentle feminity and grace how difficult it was to loose her treasure where she blames herself totally for the loss. The story though short ,has trust, twist, betrayal. In short all the ingredients of a potential tear-jerker.It had taken a little for the author to recognise its true worth but once she discovered it ,it became indispensable for her.She realised that it was among the most perfect one that shje hav ever found. She spared no effort at polishing itz dazzling perfection. And dazzle it did ,whomsoever laid eyes on it.Look hard as you would ,she challenged all and you'd be unable to detect any flaw in it.To anybody who was willing to listen, she boasted about this unique treasure and show it off.And they proved to be her undoing. These so called friends of her would drop in at dinner.Their keen eyes has quickly recognised the true worth of the precious treasure. They'd ask innocuous questions, the answers to which the author wwas only too happly to supply,so drunk they were on having acquired the un-aquirable.Over coffee the author would wax eloqent about the many qualities of our unlikely treasure, least suspicious. In hindsight the author wondered how cud she hav fallen for the oldest trick in the book?why cud'nt she see the greed gleaming in their eyes? And then the inevitable happened"could you pleas lend it to me for a day".Though full of trepidition ,she aquiesced ,how cud a day matter?how could she know that this wa sthe beginning? The seemingly innocent requests simply poured thereafter just for a few hours ,just for the afternoon, just becuase someone was not feeling well....till finally one fine day they refused to return it.The author was dumbfolded. How cud a friend become so treacherous? So selfish when she had been so generous about sharing the treasure? Why cud'nt she lodge a complaint for that blatant daylight robbery of something she had cherished for a half a dozen of years was her regret.Inspite of the fact that it had disrupted her day-to-day existence? what would u do dear reader,if the treasure happended to be ur invaluable ,fully trained ,domes-tic help and trouble shooter,Ramu kaka or Kanta bhen??
