Ok so my x and I have recently split up as of about 2 months ago. We still live togther and I plan that once april maybe may comes around I will be moving out. As tough as it is living with him its even tougher thinken about moven out. Weve lived together for about 2 and a half years now and we have a lot of things togther.. I told him he can have what ever he wants all I really want is the bed...( he has a dif bed)! The really tough thing is we have animals togther and have had them for a long time. We have a cat that we found starving and dirty...a dog that steve bought as a suck up present, 2 swimmer turtles that he bought me for my bday 2 years ago, and I african grey for his birthday last year. How do we spilt up the animals...Im gonna miss them all very much?!?!?!?

I think you should look at who can best take care of the animals and that is where they should go. It is with love to treat other life as best you can achieve.

I completely agree but you always think you can do a better job than anyone else raising your own animals...its just going to be tough saying good bye knowing I might not ever see them again! You know what I mean?

I know tough situation.I'd say work out some kind of visitation rights just like you would with children.Whoever is best able to take care of them could have them through the week and the other on weekends.I'm sure it's going to be rough however ya'all work it out.I wish you luck and sorry to hear of your troubles.

Which one of you takes care of them the most? Who has the most time to devote to them? Questions like that may help you two decide. It helps that it sounds like you both are still friends. Maybe you could set up a custody arrangement like people do with kids. It could work.

well you should get the dog and the turtles as they were presents given to you, and he should get the bird since that was a present you gave him. as for the cat that is a hard one since it was a stray. it is almost as hard splitting up animals as it is is when you have kids. because i hate to see what my son goes through.

Since the two of you are still living together, you must be able to mutally get along together fairly well. I would recommend that you take some of the animals and he takes some of them. But set aside some time that the two of you can meet and allow the other one to spend time with them.

Hi. browneyedwoman. I am sorry about your ex and you splitting up. Maybe you two can just talk it over. You should choose whom is going to be a more reliable caretaker for each of the animals that you are taking care of. I am sorry that this had to come to this though.
