i work in a call center. we do surveys. we don't sell anything. most of the time before i could finish my intro, next time i knew they're not there anymore. much worse, they will shout at you with a very annoying F_ _ _ word.
guys, i'm just doing my job. can't you just refuse in a nice way?

I think my aunt has told me about the matter. Most of her friends do that because they were extremely busy and they could not afford to even answer phone. That is also the reason that surveys are popular in US because people have no time for it. They had more important things to do that what they usually tells each people who do survey, even my aunt do such thing as well. She tells me that she needed to do that becasue she could not afford to lost even a small piece of her time answering other people queries. Her job and privacy is more important to her. I think that is the reason why american just bang the phone.

And she couldn't respond nicely with "Sorry, I don't have time, bye." and hang up? That takes no more time than picking it up and slamming it.
It's too convenient an excuse to say "I don't have time" when a polite rebuttal takes no more time than a rude one.

Time is gold in all of the Americans and they don't want to waste their time answering phone calls that why in our company we have a fix hours of work because we call them during their break but still it is hard to find ways to talk with them;but look were just doing our job right?I remember my boss told us that if the client is not interested you must said "thank you for your time, goodbye!" den hang up..it's an appropriate way but americans just bang the phone which really unrespecful.

I think this is a common reaction to "targeted" phone calls that people receive. Don't get me wrong, I am never rude to phone solicitors as I know that the caller is just doing their job but I used to get so many of those types of calls that I really did feel irritated.
I have since signed up for the do not call registry that legally bars unsolicited phone calls from being made to me and I do not receive many of these calls anymore.
Regardless, there is no need for anyone to get rude and I truly believe that. I also believe in Karma :)

I used to react the same way to telemarketters, until I worked in a call center. I sympathize ... I was simply doing my job, and for my trouble was screamed at, told off and hung up on hundreds of times a day.
As a normal every day person, I understand the concept of not wanting to be bothered. It's incredibly annoying when you receive an uninvited call from some surveyer or company, taking up your time, especially if they've called in the past and you've already said no.
However, most don't seem to stop and think that the caller is being paid an hourly wage and doesn't need to listen to abuse and whatnot ... they're not to blame, they're just following orders.
Good luck .... I got out of that job as quickly as I could, I wasn't built to be screamed at for nothing. I commend you for being able to do it.

I used to have job like that. I know its hard but thats part of the job. I dont let it get to me though coz I completely understand the feeling of the person am calling. It's just like this...average americans received like 50 calls per day and thats telemarketer. if our position is reversed then I will also lost patience.
