I got this from a friend in my email thought it ought to be passed on so I copied and pasted.
This comes from someone who works in the breast cancer unit at Mt.
Sinai
Hospital, in Toronto. From: Dr. Nahid Neman
If there is a female you care anything about, share this with her.
I
did!!!!! I am also sharing this with the males on my email list,
because
they need to tell the females THEY care about as well!
Recently a lipstick brand called "Red Earth" decreased their
prices from
$67 to $9.90.It contained lead. Lead is a chemical which causes
cancer.
The lipstick Brands that contain lead are:
1. CHRISTIAN DIOR
2. LANCOME
3. CLINIQUE
4. Y.S.L
5. ESTEE LAUDER
6 SHISEIDO
7. RED EARTH (Lip Gloss)
8. CHANEL (Lip Conditioner)
9. MARKET AMERICA-MOTNES LIPSTICK.
The higher the lead content, the greater the chance of causing
cancer.
After doing a test on lipsticks, it was found that the Y.S.L.
lipstick
contained the most amount of lead.
Watch out for those lipsticks which are supposed to stay longer.
If your
lipstick stays longer, it is because of the higher content of
lead.
Here is the test you can do yourself:
1. Put some lipstick on your hand.
2. Use a Gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
3. If the lipstick color changes to black, then you know the
lipstick
contains lead.

This is a hoax. I'm a little wary of forwarded mails so I usually check if they are true. www.snopes.com is a good site to check if a particular rumor is true.
Anyway, here is the link which disproves the danger of lipstick: http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/lipstick.asp

did you read to the last?
of course this portains to lipstick sold in the U.S.A. produced leagally here. When it comes from unothorized imports and conterfit cosmitics that envade the scutiny of the government regulatory agencies, all bets are off!

Yes, I did. Of course you can't guarantee counterfeit products. But blaming the legitimate brands that are inspected and have quality control practices in place for those counterfeit products? That's not right. Maybe the lesson here is to only buy from reliable sources.

Thank you for sharing this. I must admit that I thought that lead had been eradicated as a cosmetic ingredient. White lead was a major component of make up in the seventeenth century, but it was only one of a lethal line up of lady killers along with arsenic and mercury.
A major danger of lead which will kill you even faster than cancer is that it can cause brain damage. This is why lead was removed from all paint, to prevent infants from gnawing on painted woodwork and suffering lead poisoning.
I must admit I shall be avoiding certain brands until I know the outcome of all this debate. Thank you once again.

This is very disturbing! I don't wear lipstick but know friends and relatives who do! I had hears too that the cheap little make-up you buy for kids often has lead, as it comes from other countries without guidelines.. I hadn't heard it about these bigger companies! They definitely should know better!

Not at all...in matter of fact, you can find any cosmetic brand potential hazard information.
"Did you know: the government cannot mandate safety studies of cosmetics, and only 11 percent of the 10,500 ingredients FDA has documented in products have been assessed for safety by the cosmetic industry's review panel".

Apply liner first. Lipstick tends to feather if you apply liner second. Also, you won't be able to see the natural line of your lips if you apply lipstick first. The older you are, the 'creamier' your lips should look. Women over 50 should avoid matte or a gloss and stick with a creamy lipstick.

Wow crazy.... But thanks for this discussion. I would never thought about this - even lipstick is not good for us. Sometimes I think - ok, old old old old times - they didn't have dentist ect, but did they need it?! They didn't have all these chemicals we have nowdays.
