30, 40 years ago, the American Dream was simple. Husband, Wife, 2.5 kids, house and a dog. Wife stayed at home with the kids, husband worked 9-5.
That seems unrealistic now a days. Almost no one can survive on one income, and many women don't want to be a house wife.
What do you think the American Dream means in 2007? What is your idea of the American Dream?

It seems as if the dream these days is to get rich and famous, or to be able to buy everything you want. The most practical dream, for most people, would be to get out of debt and stay out.

Actually, that was my dream, and we are more or less living it, though I have been making extra money online and babysitting in my house. We only have one kid so far, but we will have more, and we have our house that we are fixing up. I love our life, though having a military husband who is gone for months at a time is less than wonderful--but it makes it all the more wonderful when he is here. I always felt like I would have fit in better in the 50s!
Today's American dream seems more centered on career and having money for things. Sad, really.
