Cruising? or Staying on Solid Ground?

My husband wants to take a cruise for his birthday in march. I am worried. I am not too sure about being on a huge ship in the open ocean. I am a bit afraid of sinking. Actually this is more than a bit, really I am terrified. I don't want to say no because its his birthday and I really want to go. I just don't know how to deal with it. Does the ship rock back and forth? Can I feel it? What happens if something goes wrong? Anyone who has gone on a cruise I would love to hear your experience to ease my feelings.
