When asked about the Portability of software,can you give Java and its VM as an answer?

well i think yeah it is portable and it will surely run in other system the thing which is required in my opinion is JVM installed on it ! then also wait for others members reply i am from .NET field so have less skills over java ! i have done basic java only !

Portability in software means to be able to run in different platforms without recompiling for that specific platform, or with little modification. Completely changing the source code is the not the answer if the system is to be portable. JVM has to be implemented in every platform for java to run. So if the particular operating system doesn't have a JVM implemented you would not be able to run any java programs. So the answer would be, portability is just a feature for a programming language to adapt to a specific platform with very less modication of no modification at all....
