I felt I had to post a discussion on this issue because I see so many negativity on this issue here. First I want to say how dare you who think illegal immigrants are the problem here. Americans looked the other way for so long, now the government can't handle the surge of immigrants pouring in. And the prisions...aren't there white and black people in there too? Illegal immigrants aren't the only ones doing wrong in this country, we just don't see it because people here commit crimes differenly; they put on a suit and go to their CEO jobs and steal shareholder's money. We need to stop acting like children and figure something out. If there was a system in place where if they wanted to come here and work, they could check in on the border, do the backround check, and get a temp. 6 month visa. Menwhile, the FBI or whatever group responsible, would continue checking on them, and after the 6 months, see if they have found housing and work. If so, they could apply for another temp visa and stay longer. Then if desired, they could apply for permanant citizenship. Americans don't know how hard it can be sometimes to really get here legally. Oh, and one more thing, unless your skin is red and you live in a tee pee or on a reservation, don't complain about illegal immigrants!!!! You have no right!!!

First you should be aware that of your brillant ideas are already in place. If you come into any country legal these are basically the steps you would take. However, if you cross a river and trespass over private land to gain entry into a country with no documentation that makes it illegal.
The reason there is so much frustration over illegal immigrants from all countries not just Mexico being in prison is we can't afford to keep them there.
The reason I get angry with all illegal immigrants is because I believe one should follow the rules and contribute to the society to which they are a part of, by paying taxes (not just income but all the taxes city, property, car taxes, etc.), having valid identification, carrying valid insurance and of course they also deserve to be protect by the laws granted to citizens.
All of the IIs' who work on construction sites under the table aren't covered by worker's compensation or health insurance so who should pay the bill when they fall off the scafolding or get injuried by a power tool. I'll tell you who pays now you and me because we pay our taxes.

I have many friends that aren't legal and they pay property and auto taxes; they pay their bills on time, and even pay income taxes. The only thing is they don't have legal status. Many places now have been scared into making their employees use some kind of tax ID number so they can pay taxes and be in the system. So yes, maybe there are legal processes that are in place, but if you go to mexico...and not cancun or alcopulco...and see the shacks and heaps these people call houses, and your children are starving, you have no clean water or indoor plumbing, and get $100 a week (for a giood job mind you) would you wait 2 or 3 years, pay thousands of dollars, and see what happens? No. If your child was in that situation you would do the same. End of story.

There is a difference between illegal immigrants and immigrants. Most people don't have a problem with immigrants, they have a problem with the illegal ones. It isn't supossed to be easy to immigrate! It isn't easy to immigrate into other countries either.

I just wanna let you all know I'm not trying to start a war or anything :) I really enjoy discussions that engage in strong arguments. I also noticed everyone here seemed to be against illegal immigration so I thought why not put my two cents in for the other side? I appreciate all that have responded.

OMG, what hostility! First off, how could someone (like me?) trace their roots back to her immigrant maternal grandfather around World War I (then just the Great War) AND her paternal great-great-great grandmother who was a founding member of the DAR (that's Revolutionary War for those of you not up on your American History)? Quite strange, but it's true. But you've used quite a few racial slurs and you obviously have a chip on your shoulder. I don't have a problem with people that want to come here; I have a problem for the ones that come here illegally and do NOT pay taxes, but are elibible for disability benefits? In that case, the ones that should be jailed are the people who authorized those payments. The rules need to be made easier and more streamlined so that everyone can be here legally! I think the backlash is coming from the fear of terrorism--many of the men piloting those planes had expired student visas and we're now overreacting to OUR own complacency. It's not an FBI job, I believe it is the INS who needs to be revamped and reeducated to perform their jobs correctly.
Why don't you consider making a change instead of pointing fingers at everyone else?

Because people think that these people are coming in and taking all those great jobs from us. Gee, how many are running over to be doctors and lawyers? Thought so. So they do some crappy dirty jobs that we as a society don't want anyways. Yes some are cheating the system, but I'm sure that not a single american citizen would ever dream of doing something like that!!!!! We need a change and it takes some harsh words of encouragement to get people fired up enough to do something about it.

My wife is a legal immigrant. Her family gave up everything they had to come to America. They've been waiting in the line for 8 years now to be able to get their citizenship. They've paid taxes. They've paid fees. They're going to have to pay somewhere between 300 and 500 dollars a head to process their citizenship applications. What gives hispanics the right to just hop over a fence and live here for free? The infrastructure to get a work visa, temporary stays and all that already exists. The illegal immigrants are treated poorly because THEY ARE BREAKING THE LAW!
