Isn't tumeric used in bread and butter pickles for flavoring? I can't think of any recipe that I have used that calls for it. I see that it is used in curry, guess I will have to get some of my sister's recipes and have curry more often.

Turmeric is the main ingredient in curry powder. Think curried lamb, currried chicken, curried beef...
Have you drunk salty lassa in an Indian or Lebanese restaurant? It's plain yogurt thinned with water to make it drinkable. They stir in salt and curry powder or masala. Try it! I love it and find it especially refreshing in summer when well chilled or iced. Try it with a little kosher salt, turmeric and crumbled dry mint leaves.

I put tumeric in my homemade hummus, and in chili, and in foods that have a Mexican slant. I have been doing it for mainly the arthritis benefit. There are lots of herbs and spices that enhance our health. Cinnamon is one. Garlic is another. Yes, anything that has curry has tumeric. I believe that our food can be at least part of our medicine.

I love cooking with fresh herbs and spices. All have wonderful benefits. Think about it, God knew what he was doing. Why are we so slow to use the wonderful things that grow in the soil?
