My family cookbook was made 6 yrs ago when my mother-in-law passed away. She had six kids all of them had a favorite recipe that they loved. I asked each of them for one of their favorite recipes that she made and I asked for three recipes from their kitchen that their family loves. I included in the book the Tradition Christmas dinner page that my mother-in-law always made, I also included a conversion table page, help hints page, fun facts about everyone. I typed everything on the computer program Microsoft Publisher, I added borders and when I was done save it to disc. I made copies of the books and a copy to disc for everyone. They can use the disc to add more recipes and to make copies for their children. It turn out to be a Great recipe book as well as a book full of memories.

how did you display it? i have one started but i'm having a hard time adding to it. i have only a few recipies in it! i but i have it in a binder. i did the same thing i typed everything up in word or publisher. but what i have done is made it for my frineds and famiely! i have given some of my friends coppies of it. and all that i asked back was that that i ask is that they add to it there family things, and give me the recipes they can. what do you think about that? i have also asked to do a recipe club. were we mail recipes to eachother or even do a cook night one night a month!

Sorry to take so long to respond!
I put my cookbook together in a binder because it is sturdy, the one neat thing I did though was buy the plastic slip covers and put the recipe pages in them, so if you spill anything on the pages you can just wipe them off.
Before I made the book I made sure to have everyone recipes and I named the recipes they gave as such: Val's blueberry muffins or Keri's Bread, so that everyone knew where the recipe came from.
Happy Cooking!

A few years ago for christmas an aunt called me up and asked me for some of my favorite recipes, I can't recall if I actually gave her any, but when christmas day rolled around we found out the reason, everyone in the family recieved a binder recipe book with all the family favorites, she has promised to do updates if anyone gives her more recipes. I don't think I gave her any of mine, because I go by smell taste and look to cook, I rarely follow recipes and I am not sure I could give one for any of my signature meals, except perhaps shepherds pie.

I had a great cook book but some how misplaced it in one of my moves. I think it was the good housekeeping cookbook. It had everything imaginable in it. Plus all about meats and their cuts and cooking timetables. It also had a simple recipe and a regular recipe for just about everything. I'll have to get another one. It was great!

We have cookbooks ranging from chinese cuisines, filipino recipes, baked products and chocolate recipes. I can't use the baking ones 'coz we have no ovens at store.

I have a book my ex-roommate gave me. When she moved out, she gave it to me with a couple of recipes she had made for me that I had enjoyed. Since then whenever I try a recipe (or my own variant on it, as is often the case), or try an experiment that works ... if it comes out really good, I or my husband says 'that goes in the book!'. And I put it there, along with my little notes on substitutions or changes (if I've done a variant of a recipe from a book, I put my variant in the book instead, or at least note the various options). That way I have a good quick reference to recipes we know and love, and am creating my own little cookbook.
