Here in New York we are under a heavy snow warning. I have never heard of that. I have heard of snow storm warnings and winter weather adviseries and many others but never this. Is this a new category they came up with? Has anyone ever heard of it? But anyway, we are expecting 10-20 inches of snow between tomorrow and Wednesday if the storm tracks where they think it will. It looks like we will get some use out of our shovel afterall. Driving will be interesting.

Well, I know what it means, I just never heard it stated that way before. And yes, some days in January were beautiful here. There were a few days that I had some windows open. I guess we are paying for it now.

They are calling for 8-14 tonight and another 8 tomorrow! Yahoo!
We'll be sure to get some tubing in now-- And snowmobiling!
Gotta love NY.
Oh- I've never heard of heavy snow warning either-- but I have heard of winter storm warnings-- Stay safe and keep warm!

Yes, we heard on TV tonight that you are in for a LOAD of it! No that's not a new category, you probably just aren't used to getting that much snow where you live.

No, where I live in New York, we don't get all that much snow as some other parts of the state do. One area alrady has over 100 inches. I'm glad I don't live there.

It means you will sometimes have blizzard conditions i think. New York has gotten 12 feet+ in some places and i thought i got a blizzard when i got 20 inches!

She may already know but it wouldn't hurt to tell her just so she can be ready if it gets real bad.

I have not heard of a heavy snow warning before either but that may be because of Delaware not getting heavy snow like that very often. It may be just because NY has had so much snow recently that they had to create this one or bring it out from the past. Your shovel and snow trucks will be very busy this week for sure. Be careful driving if you have to go out in this weather.

I think if it keeps up they will come out with an "oh god, more is coming" warning.lol. I don't plan on going anywhere unless someone on my road goes in a ditch, then I will go help them. Oh and they just raised the totals. They are now saying 16-24. I'm afraid to look at it again.

We are under one here too. We are supposed to get 8-12 inches of snow here. That is enough. Hope they are wrong for both of us.

I guess we should be thankful that we don't live in Oswego. They already have over 100 inches on the ground and they are under this storm warning too.

I have heard of a Winter Weather Advisory...but never the term, Heavy Snow Warning.
LOL But with New York getting so much snow lately...I guess it must be something that they just made up because they want to get the point out that it will be heavy???? LOL
I am so jealous! We are getting nothing!
We got one good snow and they are saying that we will not get anymore. :(
I hope it is our turn next year.
20 inches! Wow! That would be pretty cool!
Stay safe and warm! Lots of hot chocolate, movies, myLot...and if you have a fire place...wood too!

I heard about all the snow in New York. That is crazy. I guess I am use to the weather in California and can not comprehend all that snow!! Good luck, hopefully your electricity will not go out.

I don't mind the snow much. The only really bad storm I can remember, it was days before anyone could get out. I don't think this one will be as bad but some people freak when a large amount comes at once.

Hope you have all the supplies you need. Time to gather the kids and the camera and make some memories. We are under a winter storm warning and this snow will affect the northern half of our state. Interesting weather. The jet stream and fronts and clippers are doing their thing. The weather is supposed to gradually improve from March 1 or so on. We shall see how the weather decideds. Have fun if you can!

Yep, I'm all set. I just hope the power doesn't go out. Snow, I can handle but not ice. I will probably have nothing else to do but have fun. My boyfriend won't let me shovel as I have problems with an irregular heartbeat. He can be so sweet sometimes.lol

Over here in England last week we had a severe heavy snow warning across the counrty and we had an average of 5-10 inches of snow fall! it was great! snowmen everywhere and kids playing out, yes driving was very interesting as most of our roads were gridlocked so good luck with your winter weather, make the most of it too as it rained the next day and all our snow melted :(

I think they are just changing the advisorys because we haven't gotten any snow so now we have to make it sound worse than anyother time we have gotten a lot of snow. It's like instant panic for everybody. Although some parts of NY this year have gotten hit really hard.

I'm NOT looking forward to this. I drive to Newark and back every afternoon to pick my son up from school. Even worse than that drive is my husband's daily commute to Greece and back for work. I hope the meteorologists are just being overly cautious and we won't get very much snow. I talked to my sister yesterday and they have more than 5 feet in her town!

If it turns out the way I think it will, it won't start snowing until late Tuesday, hopefully all of you will be home safe by then. I'm guessing a lot of things will be closed on Wednesday as they are already saying not to travel unless it is an emergency. Please be careful out there.

Thanks :)
My son wouldn't get out of bed this morning, so the trip to Newark is not necessary after all. My husband is going to try get out of work at 5pm instead of 9pm (his usual time) in order to avoid the worst of the storm.
Remember the blizzard of....2000...I think it was? My husband was in training up in Rochester and we lived in Shortsville. They closed all the expressways and the thruway because of the heavy snow. It took him 6 hours to get home. He had to park the car and walk the last quarter mile because our road was impassable. I hope this won't be nearly as much snow as that!
